    “Jakob the Liar” Review

During World War II, an ordinary inhabitant of a ghetto fakes news about Allied offensives to inspire hope for other victims of the Nazi regime.

I think we’ve watched all the good comedy films from Williams and now our journey is taking us to his less humorous or less well received films, a set of movies that I’ve put off for months because of either how poorly they did at the box office or how badly they’d make me feel. “Jakob the Liar” falls in the latter set of films, as it’s a well made film with a sad story and depressing conclusion, but director Peter Kassovitz manages to use one of our generations funniest actors in a role to really hammer home several points of how absolutely and terrifyingly mundane the ghettos and purge of the Jews in Germany was. Everyone on both sides just going about their business with small changes happening frequently until one day you look up and realize that nothing can ever be right again.

Highly suggested, just bring your thinking cap so you don’t get swept up in the lies and forget what they’re really saying.
