5 Things You Should Know Before Using CBD Products

The use of CBD has highly increased in recent years. According to the recent Gallup poll, 64% of US adults use cannabidiol for pain, anxiety, and insomnia. CBD is usually covered in the media, and you might see it advertised as the latest and best wellness product.

Today, you can easily buy CBD products over the counter, online, or even at your local grocery store. However, here are a few things you need to know about CBD products before incorporating them into your health routine.

    1. Using CBD can have some side effects

Studies show that CBD is safe to consume even on a regular basis. No severe gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, or neurological effects have been reported. However, according to a recent FDA report, CBD products are not risk-free and have possible side effects.

The most common side effects linked with CBD are diarrhea, fatigue and drowsiness, change in mood and nausea. It can also raise the amount of blood thinning medicines and other drugs in your body by battling for the liver enzymes that break down these medications. Fortunately, these side effects are uncommon and often mild.

    1. CBD is legal in most states

Since hemp-derived CBD contains not more than 0.3% of THC, it’s legal to sell and buy across most of the United States. This is due to the passage of the 2014 Agricultural Act and the 2018 Farm Bill, which differentiated between hemp and marijuana.

    1. CBD has health benefits

While scientists are still learning about how CBD can affect the body, the FDA has approved it for use on specific seizure disorders. Most cannabiods, including CBD and THCA cannabinoid, have also been found to alleviate pain and anxiety and help in better sleep. Other conditions that CBD may be effective for include reducing inflammation that results from exercise and daily activities and alleviating mood.

    1. CBD products might be a better option than smoking marijuana

CBD comes in a wide range of products, such as topical creams and patches. However, oil is the most prevalent and a good place to start since it’s very shelf stable and easy to take. Consuming CBD is also safer than smoking marijuana since it prevents the damage that can be caused to your respiratory tissues.

    1. CBD can’t get you high

There is a misconception that CBD can be psychotropic or give the user a “high” feeling, which is false. CBD doesn’t possess the psychoactive properties of the drug found in marijuana. It’s derived from cannabis sativa and products made from plant parts and extracts, such as flowers, and contains less than 0.3% THC. However, CBD-infused products may be psychoactive if they contain THC, the compound predominantly responsible for the “high” effect.

    Endnote

CBD is a chemical, whether the effects are therapeutic or more. Therefore, do your due diligence before trying any CBD product and ensure you get it from a trusted source, such as a state-run hospital. You should also consult your doctor to be sure that it won’t affect other medicines you take. While CBD is fairly safe, there are always potential risks for interaction with other medications.
