My resentment towards my father kept building through the years. I wasn’t blameless, I know that now, but my bitterness blinded me to any thought of my own contribution to the problem.

I wanted things to be different for my children. I wanted to be the father I never had, so I coached Maddy’s soccer, drove Jonah to music lessons, helped them with their homework—all the things dads are supposed to do. All the things I wanted to do. So what if my Dad and I had been estranged for years? I was living one day at a time.

And then I got his letter.

That marked a turning point in our lives, a moment that cleared the way for a new relationship between us.

Dealing with neighbors that want to park in my yard

Had it out with my neighbors a couple weeks ago about them feeling entitled to use my yard as their parking lot.  You can see that they’re like 3 feet into my yard AND parked right next to the 24 hour towing sign:

My solution:

I’ve had to do a bit of research on what kind of grass will grow there and I settled on “Mondo” grass, which it turns out isn’t even a type of grass at all, but more related to lily and will spread to fill that entire section within the next 2-3 years, then will spread to the rest of the yard if I don’t put in a border or lawn frame to keep it at bay.  Pretty easy and I have plenty of time to figure it out, at least if the damn neighbors over there keep off the grass.

No pictures of the final products because I’m lazy, but here’s what I was up to over the last couple weeks.  I did the demo on the deck and washed the entire exterior of the house.  I’ll put down the new boards for the deck when I have a job again or hit the lottery!
