I was just reading somewhere or other about body mods on animals. I read they're tranquilized, but I think it'd suck to wake up with a giant painful tattoo either way. I think giving animals piercings for the hell of it is far worse--humans know not to scratch at them or tear them out, but a dog or cat probably sees it as something that isn't supposed to be there, and would probably injure themselves trying to get rid of it.

If I remember correctly, they get so large because the male lion passes on a gene that encourages growth, while the lioness passes on one that controls growth. The female tiger doesn't have a growth-inhibiting gene, so ligers just get huge. - Comment on I Can Has Mech? (2009-02-01 00:09:26)

Saw these guys on Ugly Overload. I can't get over the noses. So creepy. - Comment on Tupperware to The Rescue! (2009-01-12 15:07:35)
I remember reading the webpage that this came from, about a guy with a serious bat problem in his house. Tupperware is good stuff for that! - Comment on Awesome Bentos (2008-12-18 12:35:37)

@dieAntagonista: Man, me either. Actually, curiosity would've gotten the better of me and I'd have tried looking under the cover, would've run away screaming, and THEN called some bee expert guy. If I didn't get stung to death first. Probably could've saved some of the bees if they'd called somebody, too--there was a tree by the hospital down the road where I live that was found to have a pretty big hive in it, and they had to take the tree down either for construction or safety reasons. Some company came and smoked the hive into a container of some sort and took it away. Found some crazy pictures once of a family who had a colony of bees swarm their swingset. So they built a bonfire underneath with the help of paint thinner, and pretty much burned the bees to death. - Comment on church is sorry for bigotry (2008-12-10 05:01:27)

@WistfulD: I did this as a kid, but unfortunately most of the science was left up to the adults :( I don't think it took longer than a few days though. - Comment on You're Doing it Wrong - Hayden Panettiere (2008-12-07 19:09:35)

@outofocus: Yeah! We moved houses once and the boxes for clothes were the best for forts--they were like tall closet-boxes with a bar to hang clothes on.
