It's not true that the Mont St. Michel is no longer accessible by car. While in the past it was often surrounded by water, this has become less frequent in recent years, and is more often flanked by pasture (not to mention a large parking lot full of huge tourist coaches). Doesn't mean that anyone should attempt a stroll there though! People still die in the quicksand-like silt.
