When poor old Doris from down the street is sold a home alarm system by a shonky door to door salesman, we (quite rightly) think of Doris as the victim. But,
• When the salesman turns up in a car marked "Dodgy Dave's alarms n' fraud",
• When Doris has already bought the "World's sharpest" knives which turned out to the be exactly the opposite and the "Most legally powerful" Vacuum cleaner which only served to spread dirt around the place from the same guy,
• When Dave himself can't help but chant "she's signing it, she's signing it, I can't believe she's signing it" out loud as Doris writes the cheque for the last of her life savings and
• When *all* of Doris' neighbours hold signs outside her house saying "don't do it Doris" as the guy pulls into her driveway...
...you can't help but wonder if Doris had it coming. The party of personal responsibility seems shocked by the idea that Trump was a grifter all along and one by one, they expect us to believe that they didn't see it coming.

Of course but what this means in practice could be far reaching. Mitch McConnell said Trump was still responsible both "practically and morally" but can't be impeached because he's left office. The legal system is based on precedent and despite the fact that people have been impeached having left office before, this effectively means that the lame duck period is now a free for all. If Biden decides, in January 2025, with an incoming Republican president (probably Don Jr), that January 7th is now a national Purge Day, he can't be impeached for it. A worry.

It's a shame George doesn't seem to have the interest in suing. If he just sued the shit out of Alex Jones - maybe one or two others, a lot of this shit would go away. There is a definite and provable through line from internet conspiracy theory to QAnon to the riot at the Capitol. Not sure what we do about it, though.

The GOP will do that anyway - they'll remove 'the squad' from committees, they'll try and impeach Biden for no good reason. Nothing's below them already. The idea that they would do something as petty as retaliation for this is entirely within their craven little character.

That's not what "flight risk" means. The key word being "risk". He didn't answer a court summons, that's why his bond's been increased. Possibly because he gave the court a fake address. And they've not presented a single death threat. The only evidence they've presented so far has been an anonymous note that said they "hoped he was raped in prison", basically. Which is in very poor taste but not a threat. It might hurt his feelings though.
