This reminds me of an article I read in the NRA magazine once. There was a family staying in a motel on their vacation. One night, some dude breaks in to their room and tries to rob them. He orders grandma on the ground, and, lo and behold, she whips out the .357 Magnum that she inherited from her dead husband and blows the scumbag away. He died of blood loss while trying to flee.

My experience has been that love is not an emotion. It's a decision. There are certainly strong emotions associated with love (which is why it can be both beautiful and painful), but ultimately those emotions mean nothing without action to back them up. Ideally, love should be a selfless act, totally devoid of any thought of personal gain or recognition, aimed solely at another person. The song "More Than Words" comes to mind...
