Along with Underdog, this show had characters speaking in rhymes. Also I liked the symbolism in their animal tokens. Great show.

I imagine the price comes from the rarity; and it's nice to have the experience. I tried sea urchin (which should be called sea urchin genitals which, I found out later, is the only edible part of the thing). It tasted like...raw sea creature balls.

I was watching Ultimate Fighter: USA v. UK and the U.S. team has flags for shorts. I'm sure that's respectful, getting sweat, spit and blood on the American flag like that.

Exactly! I had plenty of friends who were also socially awkward, but then you meet *girls* who play D&D and they. are. awesome.

Bitching that people want to run 13.1 miles is like tearing down someone who participates in a 10k instead of a 20k. You know why some people participate in half-marathons? BECAUSE THEY CAN. Not everyone's a marathon runner, but some love to run. This is like asking why you get $200 when you pass GO instead of $250: it's *arbitrary*. The important thing is participation. Get off the couch and see if you can do even this much.

Spider-Man 1 & 2 were great, except for the asides trying to push the "New York is so great and we're all New Yorkers peace love kisses hug" bullshit on us. Tying Spider-Man into 9/11...thanks, but no. I'd rather just enjoy a Spider-Man film. Part 3 sucked, end of story. I don't need a darker Peter Parker swing dancing, and don't try to make me feel bad about Sandman. Ugh...and what is Topher Grace doing in this movie? Iron Man's awesomeness was inversely proportional to Daredevil's awfulness. X-Men 1 & 2: I could do without all the "we're a family!" shit. Part 3 was great because it wasn't directed by Bryan Singer. I know I'm in the minority on this. Both Hulks were terribly boring, lacking decent stories, which is probably expected since it's mostly a story about a tortured nerd spliced to a story about a poorly-rendered green CGI monster punching shit. Fantastic Four, also shit, the both of them. The second was actually worse than the first. The Thing looked like...orange styrofoam. Jessica Alba's cute, but wrong for the part—any actress they cast would be pretty; how about finding one who can act, too. And the stories were *dumb*. And what numbskull thought Jennifer Garner would make a passable Elektra? She's skin and bones, perky and sweet. This is not Elektra. That film was laughable.

I agree...Jessica Alba was wrong for that part. And they really dumbed down the character; Susan Storm wouldn't put up with the sexist way she was portrayed. But as to that, the entire film was miscast and sucked balls. The sequel was even worse.

But Norton wasn't really the Hulk, now was he? The Hulk was the same shit CGI from the other film. Norton was just...the same old Norton, not geeky enough in my opinion. Better story would have been appreciated, too.

This concept appeals to those who are easily impressed or haven't seen enough films. In Umberto Eco's 1985 novel, Foucault's Pendulum, he devotes several pages to how easy it is to make number combinations seem meaningful or consequential. You can do the same thing with any number; it's a matter of having at least a pea-sized amount of imagination.

To Have and Have Not—pretty much the same film, set in Martinique, with a better heroine played by a better actress (Bacall)—is better.

Driving through western Pennsylvania last winter, I passed a few remote areas with nuclear plants. Goddam awful looking.

Good ol' overexaggerated early '90s McFarlane art.
  • Comment on The Green Goblin (2009-06-06 23:35:35)
This GG failed because you it's eyes and mouth were a metal mask; so you can't discern any emotions from his face. The scene at the end where Spidey & GG face off is extra lame because *both* characters have no facial expressions.

Probably because there are so *few* black comic book heroes, that a few changes here and there make a discernible difference.
