It's not a boat, it's a ship (by any of the bajillion definitions of it)... Ocean-going? Check. Carries boats? Check. Cannot be carried by any other ship? Check. Capable of sustained independent operations? Checkity-check. And yes, it's an Iowa (pre-mothballing, probably - which would make this picture older than the WWW).
