I don't the caption on the Verdun picture is accurate. The background appears to be a large lake or ocean with a destroyer close in. The helmets look wrong, as well. On first glance, I'd say it's a picture from World War II, or possibly Korea.

  • Comment on Witches of the east and west (2009-05-26 09:04:45)
Ummm, no. This is an image very similar to the promotional materials from the musical "Wicked." It's Elphaba, the wicked witch of the west, and Glinda, the good witch of the north.
  • Comment on Star Trek - Enterprise E Off center (2009-05-08 16:25:13)
Certainly not the Enterprise E. The nacelles are in the wrong position (below the primary hull) and the wrong shape. The Sovereign class nacelle has a trapazoidal cross-section with a ridge running down the length of the top of the nacelle. This clearly does not. Also, as noted above, the secondary hull looks wrong.

I believe that last picture is an AV-8B Harrier.
  • Comment on The White House (2008-12-19 15:26:23)
It's the Treasury Building. I believe it was built during the FDR administration. The story is that he was feuding with Congress and had it built there so he wouldn't have to look at the Capitol.
  • Comment on Fixed Wing Bomber (2008-01-19 16:29:32)
All bombers are "fixed-wing bombers," unless you're talking about a helicopter. This plane is more properly referred to as a "flying wing." In fact, it's a Northrup YB-49, a revision to Jack Northrup's original flying wing bomber design, the YB-35. It's a direct forerunner of the B-2 Spirit bomber.
