Hah! Dikdiks are very unique creatures with pointed, mobile snouts, large ears, round eyes, long hind legs, and short undeveloped tails. The elongated nose is essential for nasal panting (often called breathing), which helps the animal survive harsh, dry temperatures and prevent water loss. All dikdiks have large pre orbital glands right below the inside corner of the eye which secrete dark sticky substances used to mark territory boundaries. Mature dikdiks reach a height of thirty-five to forty-three centimeters. Most females are slightly heavier than males weighing about ten pounds (five kilograms) as adults. A male's average weight is four kilograms. Their bodies are approximately fifty-five to seventy-seven cm. long with a tail length of four to six centimeters. Only male dikdiks have tiny, sharp horns. Although the dikdik is one of the most beautiful animals to see in Africa, it is very difficult to spot one. They dart in and out of bushes really fast, and do not enjoy human company very much! Its sooo cute!

@nyokki: If the gas prices keep going down (%1.92 just today) and my food prices go down again, I could be looking at my first raise in 2 years. Even then, between me and my husband its going to be under 19K a year, but still, I'm willing right this second to pay higher taxes.. Its everyone's problem, we ALL need to fix it. Its so sad to know that there are people out there with 4 houses who are unwilling to give a few thousand dollars.. less then it costs to throw a party, to save the country that gave them the opportunity to have 4 houses. My mother has been working her whole life, making almost nothing, and lost 3 jobs to outsourcing. Outsourcing that makes those guys with 4 houses even richer. People like her rely on the "kindness" of the rich, she gets only what shes given, what cooperation owners give.... and take away.. and they have over and over again. Its about time they paid back what's owed. - Comment on Conservatives are stupid (2008-11-04 17:51:56)
@twosticks: I'm in the same boat and you're exactly right! @monkeybird02: If you mean spending less... do you mean removing funding from educational programs and health care programs? And what happens when these corporations give their employees pay cuts? Right now there are so few jobs in the US we can't afford to take them away from people. Spending less is only part of the fix, removing unneeded programs, and reducing the money we spend on the wars we're fighting in earnest would reduce the debt but only to a point, there still needs to be more money coming in, and I'm with Das on this one... if I was making 250,000 a year.. I wouldn't have a problem with giving 3,500 of it to the government to pay for the things that keep this county afloat. Hell I would do it right now, and I make 18K a year! - Comment on Fear Vs Hope (2008-11-04 02:58:26)
Um.. people who rely on welfare.. who don't have jobs.. are NOT tax payers, and won't benefit from anything Obama is going to help the middle class with. You have to have a job, make money and file a tax return to pay taxes.. or get tax cuts... I guess you've never done any of those things or you would have some clue as to how it works. The people hes trying to help are the people who work their asses off for their piece of the pie. - Comment on My Pet cat - Gizmo (2008-11-03 05:21:18)
Thats how my twins are turning out! The two white half manx kittens I picked up not long ago are identical twins.. I mean if one of them didn't have a bent tail (dog attack) you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.. but the one with the bent tail, Tyr, LOVES attention from anyone and everyone.. hes the kind of kitten that will climb your leg to get on your shoulder, while the other one, Kain, doesn't like being pet on the shoulders or back and it takes him a few mins to get comfortable in someones arms. Not sure what could have caused it. They're only 3 months old. Had never been indoors before I got them, and won't be going outside til they're at fixed in 3 months. - Comment on My Pet Cats-Isis and Gir (2008-11-02 14:55:50)
Judging by the contents of your table.. these kittys are spoiled. *nodnod* - Comment on My Pet Kittens - Tyrael and Kain (2008-11-02 04:34:32)
These little guys are only half manx... we call them our "special needs" kittys.. with the screwed up half tails and strange legs... plus being cross eyed, they're really clumsy, always falling off the back of the couch, and it doesn't help they refuse to be even an inch away from each other.. they wind up pushing each other off balance. Just couldn't bring myself to let one go.. I mean.. Look at them. It would break their little hearts! - Comment on My Pet cat - Gizmo (2008-11-02 04:29:37)
We got Gizzy from a friend who had like 2 litters and 2 preggers momma cats.. they where almost ALL black short hairs and all scared of people.. except Gizzy who walked right up and started chewing on my brothers boot. She was so loving when we got her.. then my father in law started playing really rough with her, sticking his hand in her face and making her mad so she would attack it. Nothing we could do to make him stop, he was always drinking.. Didn't realize what damage he had done til he moved out and she was always attacking people's legs and feet and sometimes hands. She loved me... she wouldn't have her kittens til I came downstairs to sit with her.. waited an hour meowing at my feet trying to make me come downstairs while I was eating dinner. When I realized what was going on and went, she dropped the first one right away. That would be Kira. the 2nd one died a week later. runt. And then we got her fixed... and she got worse, to the point she bit anyone but me that came near her. I miss her a lot but have a feeling I'm the only one. - Comment on My Pet cat - Gizmo (2008-11-01 23:02:50)
She was hit by a cop car behind our house.. cop didn't even stop to see what he hit. A neighbor brought her up and she seemed alright. No emergency vets around, closest one is 2 hours away, so we where hoping she would last the night. Died maybe 20 mins after she was brought up, so at least she didn't suffer. I called the police station with the number of the cop car and they said if the cat didn't have a collar I would be fined. No action was taken against the cop. Just so you're not fooled.. she was MEAN.. bit hissed and scratched and I was the only person who could hold her or make her purr, lol. The gray cat a few posts up, Kira, is her only kitten, she got all the sweetness. Strange twist of fate... a week after Gizmo died, another neighbor brought us 2 white kittens. There had been a 3rd, black, but he was hit by a car and the woman was going to take them to the pound (Pound out here kills after 2 weeks. MOST of the animals there die. Downfall of living in a small town) but wanted to know if we would take them. If we still had Gizmo there was no way.. But we had room and kept them both. - Comment on My Pet cat - Gizmo (2008-11-01 22:53:18)
