Because only houses are made of wood, nothing else. And there is no other reason to cut down a tree. Maybe they are clearing the land for construction. Maybe its roots are encroaching on a structure. You say don't assume, yet you yourself claim you know this was done for no purpose and equate it to trophy hunting. This isn't some industrial logging operation deforesting the Amazon, is a couple of arborists who happened to find a tree shaped like a heart ffs.

The colours don't represent anything. There is no deeper meaning beyond the fact that red, white and blue were the colours of the British Union Flag from which the flag is derived.
