Yes, only in capitalism can a man own nice shoes and a young boy hope to own them some day, knowing that a good brain and hard work will take him to very nice places. If it was socialism, neither would have nice shoes and they'll both be sitting on the street waiting for the government to come and give them nice shoes, which would never happen because the government would be too busy shoveling money into their own pockets to care about anyone else. If it was communism, neither would have nice shoes, and they'd be busy throwing rocks at the US embassy.

That's just silly. God copyrighted the fish in the first place. He cannot pirate himself. And everyone knows bread is Open Source, so no piracy there, either.

Luke: Professor Layton, I've got it! Prof. Layton: Yes, you got it, you annoying little brat, but you don't have to act like an obnoxious twit every single time you solve a bloody puzzle. And stop following me already. Or at least put on a pair of pants so you don't make me look like a bloody pedophile. I jump out of my skull every time someone asks me if I'd like to have a seat over there...

The term "freethinker" is as much an oxymoron as the term "Scientific Creationist." Your thought process isn't free. You do not "choose" to believe that 2 plus 2 equals 4. You either understand that it does (a purely deterministic and involuntary process) or you don't. Likewise, people do not choose their beliefs, they just happen as a result of the way the brain processes impulses. Don't believe me? OK, then choose to believe in Santa Claus. Go on. Do it. It should be easy. If beliefs were voluntary, you should be able to change them at will, right? But you can't. You cannot choose to believe in Santa Claus. You can choose to write the sentence "I believe in Santa Claus". But that's not belief. Those are just letters on a screen. Whether you believe in Santa Claus or not is the result of an involuntary process with no "choosing" involved. Same thing for believing or not in Jesus, Mohamed, Buddha, Bart Simpson, or Batman. So "freethinkers" should stop being such jackasses about it.

"Least imaginative movie about dreams ever made." -- Some internet guy "Some writers think women are just decoration. Nolan doesn't even get that far. All women in Nolan's movies are either cartoonishly evil harpies or personality-free props put in the movie just because 'something' has to be 'female'." -- Another internet guy "It continues the tradition of all other Chris Nolan movies: more plot holes than actual plot." -- Yet another internet guy "An 'intellectual' movie for people without an intellect." "How old is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, anyway? 15?" Don't forget to check "Inception: the abridged script" at http://www.the-editing-room.com/inception.html

Who are YOU to say that a man's love for his own hand cannot possibly compare to a man's love for his wife? A man's hand NEVER LETS HIM DOWN! IT NEVER SAYS NO!!! IT NEVER HAS A HEADACHE!!! IT NEVER COMPLAINS THAT YOU DON'T TALK TO IT ANYMORE!!! Let's see if you can say the same about your wife! If you don't allow people to marry their own hands, it obviously means you're a handophobic bigot!!!! (Double standards indeed...)

Yes, because everyone knows the owners of those Mexican restaurants have spent the last 1200 years screaming for the death of all those who aren't devout Mexican-food eaters. (And notice how 99% of all the posts after this will commit the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.)
  • Comment on japanese cartoon fan (2010-07-12 15:31:32)
Typical anglo-centric nonsense. The reason anime fans in the US are so adamant about subtitles instead of dubs is because the American dubs are the worst in the planet. A monkey with a Speak & Spell would do a better job the american "actors" they hire for the dubs. All of them seem to belong to the Jon Lovitz school of ACTING!! and seem to have absolutely no understanding of the characters they're playing. It's simply painful to watch anime dubs, specially comedies like Azumanga Daioh or even The Slayers and DBZ. But that's a only problem with American dubs. If you've heard (even if you don't understand) the latin-american dubs or the brazilian (portuguese) dubs of some anime and even american cartoons, you'd know how much better it could be. And I seriously doubt the Japanese dubs are bad either, considering voice actors in Japan are usually the best actors around.
  • Comment on this is not a difficult concept (2010-07-11 09:43:18)
A newborn baby isn't a "person" either. It's just a tiny weird human-like thing that can only do five things: breathe, eat, poop, sleep and cry, and all those things it does as mechanically as a phone that rings when a call comes in. A newborn baby doesn't have a mind. It doesn't have feelings. It just cries a lot. An 8-year-old dog is more "human" than any newborn baby, yet killing a dog isn't anywhere near as "evil" as killing a newborn baby. All a newborn baby has is the "potential" to become a person. It isn't a person yet. But funny thing, the same reasoning applies to a 2-week-old fetus. Judging by potential alone, there's no meaningful difference between a 2-week-old fetus and a newborn baby; the baby might have realized a bit more of its potential, but ultimately potential is all it really has. And judging by actual capacities, neither could possibly qualify as a person by any stretch of the imagination. So either allow the arbitrary killing of both 2-week-old fetuses and newborn babies, or disallow both. Any other alternative would be irrational and arbitrary.

Oh, let's see, why is it that the medical care in the US is so much more expensive than anywhere else in the world? That's because most US citizens are either thieves or morons. Hospitals, doctors and nurses are thieves who'll charge you $1000 for a glass of water if they think they can get away with it. Patients are morons who think insurance is a magical little fairy that pays for everything so they don't have to think about how much anything costs. And insurance companies are both thieves and morons who know the hospitals are thieves but lack the patience and manpower to deal with it, and they know their customers are morons, so they just pass the cost onto them by raising premiums whenever the hospitals decide to raise their asshole factor. Will that retarded bill do anything to solve the problem? Hell no. Thieves will still be thieves and morons will still be morons. Furthermore, now that everyone should have insurance, the thieves will have even less incentive to reduce their thievery. The morons will think everything is free now, so they'll abuse the shit out of it. Every single cute doctor's office will instantly fill with every single cougar in town. And let's hope there isn't any big-breasted nurse in the ER or every single loser in town will have "an accident" every day, after all, they're paying insurance, which obviously gives them the right to turn it into a dating/stalking service, right? RIGHT? And of course there's the overprotecting parents who will demand the insurance cover their little girl's boob- and nose-jobs. And the ones who'll demand insurance pays for the 50 doctors they visited when their beloved little snowflake got a zit. Liberals have the retarded notion that the solution to every problem is to throw someone else's money at it. They're about to be hit by the full force of the old saying: "Invent and idiot-proof system and they'll invent a better idiot."

Typical liberal BS, and as all liberal BS it's nothing more than a rationalization of robbery. According to Liberal Logic (tm), since it's very difficult (in fact, impossible for me) to legally obtain a Gold Visa card, it should be OK for me to use illegal means (a.k.a. robbery) to obtain one. After all, if the law makes something difficult, let alone impossible, then it's perfectly OK to violate that law, after all, your own personal desires are more important than anything else in the world. Certainly more important than other people's rights.

  • Comment on genetics premium ice cream (2010-06-11 12:40:13)
While it's true that 99.99% of the people who claim to be fat due to genetics or some sort of disorder are full of it both literally and figuratively, that doesn't deny the fact that there are a bunch of disorders that could cause the body to store most of the excess energy as fat regardless of what the person does. Remember why athletes use steroids? That's because sometimes the body simply refuses to turn the excess energy into muscle no matter how hard you exercise. Remember why women have a harder time losing fat around the waistline and building muscle than men? That's because their bodies are genetically designed to give priority to storing fat than building muscle. Of course, you can tell those who are "genetically fat" quite easily because they are fat, but hardly ever overweight (they look like bloated balloons even if they are 20 pounds below optimal weight). While overeaters are invariably both fat and greatly overweight, not to mention lazy as hell.

  • Comment on Mr. Faith-Head (2010-05-24 02:06:23)
As a lifelong atheist, I'd feel more inclined to feel respect for self-proclaimed "critical thinkers" decrying the irrationality of religion if they were capable of even the slightest bit of self-awareness necessary to realize that their own views on politics, entertainment, sexuality, reproductive rights, etc., are every bit as irrational, uncritical, and unscientific as any garbage scientology has come up with. Human beings aren't rational and they never will be. We know that. Get over it. And constantly pointing out the obvious doesn't make you (or I) rational by default.
