Well.....open link belts such as the 7.62 M13 metallic links (used in MGs such as the M240, M60 and MG3 to name a few) and the 5.56 belts used in the M249 SAW, wont feed if the belt is inserted upside down (open link up). When using the M9 closed links with the M2 .50 cal the belt must be loaded double link first to function correctly, if the belt is loaded upside down (single link first) the weapon will only fire single shots. So, it is possible to load an ammunition belt upside down.
