There are better things in life... than a constant preoccupation with what the guy next to you might believe. Isn't that more or less the very problem most claim of Christianity? I could easily get behind a more coherent cause of upholding church state separation or bolstering science education standards but this is just stupid, hypocritical, and shortsighted. On the other hand a lot of them are indeed no fun. TO THE LIONS!!! - Comment on Jesus Spanking (2009-07-24 09:15:52)

Atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods. In my opinion this does not make a religion. It is certainly a religious classification. There are indeed groups of atheists who have come together to form organizations. Most commonly just to have a community or for political input. There is no doctrine, dogma, or agenda that defines atheism. There may be philosophies popular among atheists, such as materialism, naturalism, or humanism. But in and of itself it is simply an answer to a single question. "Do you believe in a god?" In my opinion this does not make a religion. If people choose to label it as a religion I'm not sure how much difference it would make. It is what it is. - Comment on Susceptibility to Religion (2009-06-30 16:55:57)
I would like to see this experiment reproduced Larry. - Comment on Susceptibility to Religion (2009-06-30 16:53:50)
We all have a fear of the unknown and are largely ignorant of the world around us. While these things certainly contribute to how susceptible we are to accepting false claims it is misleading to draw a line and runs the risk of contributing to the generally unnecessary and counterproductive Us v. Them mentality. As for poor critical thinking skills, I completely agree. People need to learn them early and use them much more often. - Comment on galactic sea turtle (2009-06-09 09:16:33)

I don't see any reason they couldn't have used a real tie.
