A true hero! He will be remembered and hopefully we will once again start following in both those small steps and giant leaps.

How else would they be ready for the coming apocalypse of whatever variety first decides to descend upon us? Added to the checklist a second time!

Did they also mention that she may also be the the cutest little girl to ever make a discovery? Pictures of kids like that make me want to have kids and then teach them science!

Indeed, Bateman was far too crazy. Though on that note he probably killed no one and instead existed mostly in a schizophrenic haze that was driven by compromised ethics instilled by his industry and the excesses of the 1980s.

Sweet, I have actually been on that train line when I was living in Nagoya. Gotta say it was one of my favorite cities and probably the best mass transit system that was also very easy to navigate.

Good point about the schedules having little do do with actual danger of a drug. After all, morphine is highly dangerous but used because of the medical applications. On an interesting note, some of the first test cases for Marijuana and PTSD are about to start hitting courts, it will be very interesting to see the results as it would create a very large population that would qualify for medical use. By extension we then have the possibility of all persons with PTSD or trauma symptoms as having a legitimate medical claim to the drug. It will be a very interesting legal test to watch.

Yeah, I think a last estimate of the LD50 for LSD was at about 2000 micrograms per kilogram, resulting in exactly 0 known overdoses. Though there have been many cases of serious injury and few deaths caused by irresponsible use, but that goes with any chemical that alters behavior from acid to caffeine. Though being around assholes while having a few cups of coffee is less likely to be problematic than having a few hits of acid with those same people. And to follow up on the ecstasy weirdness. There are known overdose levels (though it is once again questionable how many have actually hit those levels), it causes a great deal of stress on the heart, and is generally one of those drugs that many would recommend having at least one persona available in case any medical problems do come up.

Not so sure about the placement of Ecstasy. It is a quite powerful drug that does not play well with a plethora of other medications.

You are correct, though Wankel is mostly being replaced by rotary.

I now have the sudden desire to make this my "Empty recycle bin" sound at an office. Force an epic 90s montage of music on everyone.
  • Comment on Android -v- iPhone (2010-05-10 00:00:07)
I often hate on Apple (and consequently recommend linux to piss off pc users at the same time), but I am willing to admit the iPhone has been a great success and pushed a lot of companies to expand what they were doing. That said... This is priceless, and like others actually produced a true verbal lol.
  • Comment on wtf is wrong with comic sans? (2010-05-09 23:54:57)
A super quick typography lesson and why people view this as an important issue. Serif fonts, the ones with the "squiggles" and what not, were created for print. They help lead the eye and better define groupings of characters. San-serif, or plain, fonts are used primarily in the digital world. It turns out that once you pixilate serifs the fonts become very hard to read. Helvetica, verdana, and related fonts are based on vectors. Not being based on rasterization (pixels)they are much easier to read on a screen. However, each of the broad sets of fonts like these are based on some fairly careful science for reading and ease of use. The trillions of other fonts are just based on "looking nice" regardless of readability. And this is why people despise comic sans.
