So the 3 million norwegians who were one of the poorest countries in europe(back before the oil) should have stood against the "might" of the nazi warmachine? Ever had to face an enemy you cant outman and outgun? A lot of norwegians fought against the germans during the second world war(with sabotage and guerilla tactics) and after that war the mandatory military service for norwegians was implemented to be better prepared next time. Oh and I think liberty and democracy is just as important for us as it is for you. If im not mistaken it was invented in Greece and developed in Rome, france, and later america? And talking about liberty, atleast you have to go over 1000 years back in time to find slaves kept in norway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_slavery) But yeah, your country is probably alot more violent than mine and if i lived in similar surroundings maybe i would have a different view. But i think one should strive to get ones country so safe that ordinary people keeping guns are no longer needed. And in my opinion that is achieved through social reforms to get rid of poverty and better education for everyone. long post again >< - Comment on Armed Vs Disarmed (2008-07-22 07:10:55)
Lets see. in most of western europe i think anyone admitting to having a loaded handgun in their home would be seen as paranoid and weird people. If someone came armed to my house to steal from me, i'd let them do it and report it to the police. Nothing material i own is worth risking my life by going into a gunfight to protect. I have to say im happy to live in a country were me and my family can feel 99,99% safe without owning a gun, and were guns are rare for both criminals and ordinary people. Im from norway, and all men have 1 year mandatory military service. So we know how to handle weapons, we're allowed to have weapons(strict rules for how they are kept), we just choose not to. And i dont see how more weapons can make any country safer. It just means more weapons are gone get in the wrong hands. Long post, have discussed this with americans before, know you disagree with me... but i can't get over how obsessed many of you are with keeping weapons and your illusion that it makes you safe. - Comment on ordinary americans with guns (2008-02-02 07:02:07)

what would you do then? - Comment on ordinary americans with guns (2008-02-01 22:05:16)
the most realistic scenario in a situation where 6 armed robbers enters your building and you draw a gun is that you die. I think you'd be more likely to survive if you werent armed. Also you could ask the question, is someone taking your stuff/money worth killing for?. I think that any safety you get by owning a gun is false safety, and that when its easy for everyone to get guns you just get a bad circle where more and more people feel they need guns. and soon they're everywhere. But maybe im just naive, i live in a small rich country in europe where every adult can choose to buy a gun if they want to, but i dont know anyone owning anything else than hunting rifles and i've only seen hand guns when i was in the army.(mandatory military service of 12 months) In my country if people knew you owned a non hunting weapon people would think you were weird/dangerous. I know that the situation is not the same in America where guns are common, but i cant think that guns beeing common does anyone any good. If it were up to me the only ones allowed to own/carry non hunting weapons would be the police/military. And the punishment for owning a weapon would be so high that no one would dare to own one. - Comment on ordinary americans with guns (2008-01-28 20:27:35)
This ad. makes me sick. Nothing about the racials, more that it states that guns makes you safer. Less guns everywhere makes you safer.
