You are correct, the nighthawk was shot down. But it was not seen until after they found the wreckage. When you let your enemy know the exact time, place and route of your attack the invisibility thing becomes much less helpfull. It makes no difference now though since the F-117 program was eliminated due to budget cuts anyway.

Speaking as a co-pilot I can say that my job is to carry everybody's pubs, fill out paperwork, and in general be treated like the new pledge at a frat. I doubt God would be interested in the job. - Comment on super sonic jet (2008-07-05 22:23:54)
You are correct. A T-38 impacted the XB-70 during a photo op after departing controlled flight due the massive vortices generated by the Valkyries unconventional wing design. (according to the incident report) To say that it was sucked into the engine is hyperbole, though I believe that during the impact the XB-70 did in fact ingest at least part of the 38. - Comment on super sonic jet (2008-07-05 18:20:36)
The only aircraft I know of that ever sucked another aircraft through its engine while in flight - Comment on missle truck (2008-06-25 13:49:27)
It looks like a ÃÅ“ÃÂ×-7912. Right now these are being manufatured in Belarus. I am not sure what it is carrying though. Usualy these are seen with the Topol-M which has different launch tube. This launch tube almost looks similar to the containers used by the SA-10 (though it is definitly way too big for that) - Comment on AC-130U Spooky/Spectre Gunship (2008-06-19 19:11:50)
I once got to call in fire support from one of these. I never saw or heard him, but it was like calling the wrath of God down from heaven. I would give a set of coordinats and everything there would be instantly immolated. Some of the targets were so close we could feel the heat from the blast. It was definitly one of the most incredible/scarry experiences of my life. A lot of good people are alive because of what these guys do. - Comment on Paris (2008-06-16 13:03:27)
I have to agree with storminator and nyoki. Paris is filthy, the people are rude, and everyone stinks. I never could see how the city is any more romantic than say Garry Indiana.
