  • Comment on England - The Welfare Country (2007-12-27 18:58:23)
Like Thracian, I'm happy to pay tax. Yes I'd like a say in where the tax goes, but I am happy to pay it. In fact I don't think I'm taxed enough and would like to pay more tax so there is more funding for health, education and those less fortunate than myself. The tax system in the US is fucked. The tax system in Australia is ok. I am all for the welfare state, because there are times when I may need it, and its comforting to know its there. Yes there are those who abuse it, but they don't make up the majority.

  • Comment on Variety of Berries (2007-12-01 18:31:55)
I thought berries had many seeds typically on the outside of the fruit, or nested together... so strawberries and raspberries are berries, where grapes are a fruit from a vine. Cherries are related to peaches and apricots which are oddly enough related to roses. I don't think blueberries are actually berries. Just looked up wikipedia... I'm wrong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berries And bananas are herbs, and apparently will die out due to inbreeding.

I unreservedly apologise on behalf of all non-racist Australians for Q-delta's comments. I'm quite happy to apologise to the various remaining Aboriginal tribes and nations for my ancestors fucking up their lives and the fact that their lives are still fucked up today.
  • Comment on Yellow Stone National Park (2007-10-29 20:17:37)
The fact that it is a supervolcano and is overdue for its next eruption worries me. But I don't live in the US, so it doesn't worry me as much as it should worry many of the users of this site.
  • Comment on Satellite Dishes in London, UK (2007-10-21 03:55:38)
I don't think its London. I'm thinking middle east like Syria, Lebanon or Jordan.

Where are the propellers coming from?
  • Comment on Confusing Street Sign (2007-09-21 23:05:41)
My guess, due to the surrounding landscape is that its Australian. Australian Road Trains (will post a pic) are stupidly long... and loud. So, you don't want them driven through your quiet down on weekends or around public holidays. Though where they're supposed to go otherwise, I don't know.
  • Comment on George W. Bush (2007-09-06 21:21:49)
*snort* He endorsed Australia's current Prime Minister (who is seriously lagging in the polls and coming up to election time). So given Bush's lack of popularity in Australia, he certainly didn't help Mr J Howard's election chances.

This so looks like my ex-housemate's PC. He had bits and pieces lying all over the place that were part of the operating PC.
  • Comment on Penguins in Sweaters! (2007-08-13 06:57:02)
Actually they put them in "sweaters" after they scrub the oil off them. They wash the dirty penguins in detergent which also strips their natural oils from their feathers. This means that they lose the insulation that the natural oil provides and if they get wet they stay wet. So they get little jumpers until they regenerate their natural waterproofing so they don't freeze to death.

Go and watch Red Dwarf - Backwards. LISTER Okay, okay! But look at the flipside of the coin. It's not all good. Take someone like, say . . . St. Francis of Assissi. In this universe, he's the petty-minded little sadist who goes around maiming small animals! Or Santa Claus--what a bastard!
  • Comment on Asian Vs Oriental (2007-07-28 21:08:19)
I think its actually a UK thing. They refer to those people from "South Asia" or what I know as the subcontinent as Asians. In Britain there are more "Asians" than "orientals". In Australia we refer to Asians as people from China, Korea, Japan and South-East Asia - typically ending around Burma. The term "oriental" does not enter our lexicon in relation to a descriptor for people.

I think its got a lot to do with the restrictive laws in Singapore that can land you in jail. More sad than funny in my opinion.
