Okay, let's look at the definition of "make." Just because you say you subscribe to a certain set of beliefs does not automatically mean you are a better person. Actions are the true indicators of a persons "goodness". However the statement can be read to mean that holding a certain belief won't make you into a better person. In that case, the statement would be false, as internalized ethics will produce better behavior as they are allowed to guide one's actions. So, beliefs can transform one into a better person over time. The common way of reading the original post is the former interpretation, which I agree with, as it speaks against hypocrisy, but the latter interpretation is equally valid, if properly explained.

I saw a Kevin Smith interview where he said that he once broke a toilet off the wall (it was one of those that are only supported by wall brackets). - Comment on Toilet weight capacity (2012-07-09 21:14:35)

I see this as an argument for following traditional wisdom, not against. Yes, you are free to discard it just because nobody understands it and the wisdom behind the social norm has been forgotten, but you're still going to end up getting everyone else soaked and yourself beat-up. Just because people have forgotten the consequences doesn't mean they've ceased to exist. This is not to say you shouldn't question norms, but do so in a careful, methodical way, not all at once because "tradition" (ridiculously oversimplified as a single entity) is dumb. - Comment on trip to anywhere (2012-06-09 15:27:45)

Pennybacker Bridge, Austin. Nice photo, but the photographer was standing on top of a cliff during a thunderstorm. - Comment on Abandoned Church (2012-05-21 15:38:35)
