Ok, here we go. You can express the same number as a fraction or a decimal. if: 1/3=.333... then: 3(1/3)=1 which can also be written 3(.333...)=.9999 Same number. Not "close enough." Same. Nothing to do with limits, it's the identity of a real number. Q.E.D. - Comment on Catwoman (2012-08-15 01:39:33)
That is so messed up. - Comment on Jefferson on Government (2012-08-12 06:02:31)
My reading of history convinces me that Thomas Jefferson wasn't the only person at the time with ideas, and it's a good thing there was a number of Founding Fathers with varied views who balanced each other out through compromise. - Comment on A+ for Creativity (2012-08-12 01:45:26)
Yes, this was funny the first time I read it. But re-read the questions by themselves, then try to imagine a non-contrived reason for asking them. - Comment on Honest Chris Brown album review (2012-08-11 15:00:58)

...because they didn't have enough imagination nor wit to actually make this picture funny. - Comment on Capitalism (2012-07-21 18:24:17)
It bugs me when people use that argument about minimum wage. True, if someone making $7.25/hr had the buying power that they would have living in one of those countries, they would be rich. But they don't. It's not about comparing the actual monetary values, it's about what that wage can get you where you are. In many locations in the U.S., minimum wage can't get you a place to live (and definitely can't afford you the luxury of moving to another country where you can "be rich" with minimum wage skills) Saying that our poor would be rich in other countries is an insulting argument. It says nothing of the difficulties of living in poverty in the United States (which are a tremendous burden on those who suffer through them, even if they aren't on the same level as those images from Africa). I won't belittle poverty in other countries, but we can't blow off one person's problems because someone else has it worse. - Comment on Season started (2012-07-20 15:35:35)

Ethan Allen and Paul Revere are sitting in a tavern, talking about how the revolution is going, when they notice a woman at the bar. "Dude! You know that loyalist spy we've been after?" says Allen. "Yeah, ain't that his chick?" "Yeah, I think I got a plan. As soon as she leaves, I'm gonna sneak out behind her and she'll lead me to him. I'm gonna follow that chick and catch a Tory." - Comment on Logical reasons why cannabis is illegal (2012-07-14 17:06:44)
Of course there are logical arguments why cannabis is illegal, just like there are logical arguments (however weak) why alcohol, cigarettes, candy, fast food, matches, bungee jumping, and driving a car should be illegal. It's just that the logical arguments why those things should be legal outweigh the logical arguments to the contrary. The problem with this "graphic" is that it blows off the opposing arguments instead of facing them and making the case that the pros are more important than the cons. - Comment on Logical reasons why cannabis is illegal (2012-07-13 15:45:26)
