It took me a couple of looks before I noticed.

You're yourself. We need to get away from the delusion that there's a left and right, as if all opinions fit on a simple linear continuum, when in reality its a field with more dimensions than we can possibly conceptualize.

Moderate independent who recognizes the need for varied opinions, but just wishes both sides would learn to compromise instead of posturing to protect their own jobs. My strongest political opinion at the moment is the need for congressional term limits.

If that's true, then, yes, it's excellent advertising. Can you provide more information? I'm not finding any Fire Island that would use the British "metre". I'm also a bit skeptical as to why you would need something as big as a billboard for pedestrian traffic.

There are two cats in the middle picture then. I completely missed the obvious one.

...unless it's supposed to be seen from a roadway - in which case it's completely ineffectual, as the type is too small and nobody can read more than eight words on a single billboard while driving anyway. He must be a psycho to put aesthetics over basic functionality.

Our male perception is that many of the women around us are like that, because we find a great percentage of them attractive (it kinda helps us propogate the species). However, if you look at objective measurements and the photoshopped perfection of those models versus the real, fit women that you find attractive, you will discover that real women are more like the Dove campaign than the 5'8", 102 lb, 32-26-30 models in most every other advertisement out there. Women, however, see the ads and are lead to believe that perfection is the only form men think is attractive (thanks to comments like yours), which takes a serious toll on their self-perception and health.

    But...but...he's British.
  • Comment on Germania (2012-08-26 20:52:08)
Sorry, correction: the podium the dome sits on would have been 25+ stories tall; the entire building would have been closer to 100 stories tall. And the dome of St. Peter's in the Vatican would have fit inside the little cupola on top.

Albert Speers' plans for the government complex on a north-south axis in Berlin. The red ones are the ones the Third Riech actually built. To give you perspective for that massive dome (the Volkshalle), that tiny purple building next to it is the Riechstag. If I remember correctly, it would have been bigger than most modern sports arenas, been 25+ stories tall, and made of stone.

".9999… does not equal 1, ever. They aren’t the same thing." "This is why 0.999… = 1." Forgive me if it wasn't obvious. Now can you please reconcile your two opposing statements? If you're going to respond casually, maybe you shouldn't bring up complex mathematics.
