I think it's a ghillie suit made of trash... for blending in to urban areas... Whether he actually sprayed that tag is up for debate.

Left-handed writers and their pencil-smudging shenanigans.

... but 90%+ of the Native American population was decimated by plague spreading northward from the landing Spanish voyages. Shit was pretty much over before the English even got here... culture shock aside, there would have been plenty of room. That's not a good metaphor for what's going on now.

It'd like to believe that this image is that of a realistic and progressive take on organized religion; one that strives more towards realizing the kind of goals that motivated the organizing of religion in the first place (altruism), as opposed to the prevailing model of radical adherence to standards that kept order 2,000 years ago ... but what the fuck, as long as we're all joking, here -- Man, the changes you see in a bad economy. • Comment on Marcus Aurelius (2012-08-22 12:56:14)
Generally speaking, if you don't know Marcus Aurelius, you won't know the difference - and if you do know Marcus Aurelius, you know The Meditations (Book 2, specifically). Moreover, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that my unsourced quote being accurate makes me better than the unsourced quote that's bollocks.

I've lived by a rather similar philosophy, so it's nice to see it on screen. However, Aurelius didn't say this. He said: "Since it is possible that thou mayest depart from life this very moment, regulate every act and thought accordingly. But to go away from among men, if there are gods, is not a thing to be afraid of, for the gods will not involve thee in evil; but if indeed they do not exist, or if they have no concern about human affairs, what is it to me to live in a universe devoid of gods or devoid of Providence?" These two quotations don't mean the same thing. The former is just someone's misinterpretational paraphrase of the latter, which has been by others misattributed back to the very guy it was erroneously interpreted as being implied by. Still, great sentiment ... but fuck you, internet.
  • Comment on Fig hate flyer (2012-08-16 23:04:42)
It's a metaphor; the fig leaf is the symbol of Judaism, of which Christianity was, at first, considered a crazy fringe cult offshoot (Christians thought Jesus was the messiah, Jews not so much.) What Jesus is saying (or, more likely, what an author with an agenda is saying Jesus said) is that the Jewish religion has beautiful, enticing promises but, overall, bears no fruit and should wither and die. A huge period of that history was spent trying to gain a foothold as both a serious religion and a mainstay within the Roman Empire ... so you see a lot of "The Jews fucked up this" and "Whatever the Empire says is good is an abomination before the lord thy god (pride, lust, passion, envy, etc.). Interesting... but frustrating. (Also a good example of business as usual for organized religion)

Come on, man. Regardless of whether the "who will help those who can't help themselves" or the "God helps those who help themselves" crowd is in control of our system, it's people like her that will manipulate their status in favor of the most benefit. Assistance to those who don't work a certain amount of hours? Well, better work less! Assistance to those who work just enough hours! Well, better work JUST ENOUGH to get it. The problem is the people - our elected officials are just representative of that cultural flaw. (Also, people like you aren't helping.)

For some reason it didn't dawn on me until I saw this image the irony of the xenomorph origin. Androids really fuck up everything for everyone, don't they. Every goddamn time.
