If you build your house on a floodplain, it might get filled with water.
If you build your house in tornado country, it might get blown away.
If you build your house next to a volcano, it might get buried.
And if you build your house in the middle of a drought-ridden desert, it might get burned to the ground.
Has anyone else noticed how much it costs us in blood (dead firemen) and treasure (insurance premiums + taxes/debt) to keep *so many* people living in that area?
I was a wildland firefighter in college. They often shipped us down to California. Trust me, while people die, it was a very small percent. Very demanding, almost military like job of putting 14-16 hour days in ’til the fire is out… but with a much, much lower fatality rate.
True… this isn’t Afghanistan here… I was just trying to keep together the phrase “blood and treasure.”
Still, the more people you have walking/driving/flying around large fires, the more likely something is going to happen, however unlikely.
After the fires are out they can prepare for heavy rains and MUDSLIDES! Sounds awesome!
Friends in LA said that the fire is so bad that you cannot even breath. The air sucks in LA without a fire being there too. I hate SO Cal.
I am literally less than a mile from the Altadena fires, for I am in Altadena. HOW FUN. (Altadena is a little town above Pasadena.)

I’m looking at this thread as my lady is playing FO3… They compare quite nicely, actually.
I agree, actually. I just meant that as a dig against FO3’s grey-brown-ness. Seeing them makes me want to unload a few shotgun shells into their engines to see them blow up like mini nukes.

-Large area (yet quite safe) fires begin.. ALSO a NATUARL part of NATURE!
-budget is reinstated to Fireman/waterbombers/state fire programs….

i say this as growing up in a fireman employed community- lots of fireman around here- every time budget crisis and Arnold starts making cuts- oh look -a giant brush fire- in an area that hasnt burned for many years..kinda like a seasonal fire in nature… and everyones happy right?.
A friend of mine lives in Denver and he can smell the smoke from these fires.
