The country’s already quasi-socialist and few people seem to care. Stop fucking whining about something you don’t understand, and stop believing every horror story you hear unless they provide actual evidence.

Wait! Remind me again, because I keep losing track… *who* was the President when the Heroic Capitalists on Wall Street took off with a few tens of billions of my economy’s wealth? And now I’m supposed to get angry at Obama for being “socialist”?
I have two questions:
1) What is Socialism? Define it, please, and then tell me how it applies to any new government program, and how those differ from programs that already exist.
And, 2) Why isn’t Dick Cheney dangling from the end of a rope?

Wow. I’m not a fan of Obama, but that’s just poor. The joker was, like Reboot said, an anarchist and not a socialist.
As for the general accusation that Obama is a socialist and the U.S. is becoming a socialist country, let’s just face it there is some truth to it: Last time I read, the government now owns 60% of a GM. The government also limited salaries for executives of companies that took bailout money. Maybe that was a good way to make sure the money wasn’t “wasted,” which I’m pretty sure it was anyway, but the government shouldn’t tell people how much they can make. Healthcare-wise, if we honestly think WE can pull off socialized healthcare correctly and not be fucked and lose boatloads of money, we should consider just bombing ourselves for being stupid. Sure it’s a good idea, but nobody can do it right.
Anyone who believes Obama is even remotely socialist either has no idea what socialism is or has no idea who Obama is.
I support Obama and I would disagree, I think Obama is moderately Socialist, but it’s a good thing. We’ll never see the US turn completely Socialist but we need government intervention now and then, especially now. And there’s a very strong reason everyone has socialized healthcare (except us).
Trust me, noone would be happier if Obama was socialist, but he’s not. All of Obama’s cabinet picks have been from the financial sector, former hedge-fund jockeys and investment company CEOs, that’s about as far away from socialism as you can get.
Why so Socialist.

Republicans have literally nothing of any cultural relevance to add to the world. Soviet totalitarianism wasn’t socialism. Look at Spain in the early 1930s if you want to see a socialist government. That worked great until the fascists overthrew the democratically elected government.

Our current healthcare system excludes the poor… or hard working people who simply cannot afford it. A social option will only work to control the cost inflation caused by allowing our healthcare system to become profit based. The so-called socialist countries mentioned are mixed market, just like we are. The US has lots of socialized programs, but unfortunately they underwrite corporate losses while protecting private profits. When the American people want to put people first, they’re demagogued.
What the real joke is, is that Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress more than tripled the National Debt in just 6 months and no one seems to care.

Gor – Real economists (and not demagogues) have credited that expanded deficit spending to heading off a complete crash like the early 1930s. I do care that the deficit has exploded, and I cared when we were sending troops overseas and giving rich people a tax cut. We need a massive tax increase, but we need economic recovery first.
I have no problem spending money to fix something, but much of the money is being spent on really stupid shit or paying off those that help them get elected and is not going to benefit the average person (like the John Murtha Airport or the underground tuttle tunnel on Florida’s US 27, here’s a short list www.jasonmdurham.com/?p=177). Also, real economist know that the only proven way get an economy going to by LOWERING TAXES, no recovery ever happen enacting massive tax increases.
As for troops overseas, Obama is continueing to follow the exact same game plan as Bush, but if everyone remembers correctly Obama attack Bush on having our troops overseas and promised to cut back, yet he has failed to do so.In fact, he is increasing our presence overseas. He is the Commander-in-Chief and doesn’t need Congressnial approval to bring our soldiers home. Personally I think he is doing the right thing there (more troops and drone attacks), but it is not what he promised on the campaign trail.
