the verbage from the 1953 ad:
“Husband furious because you’ve missed the post? The Pitney-Bowes Postage Meter prints the stamp and seals the envelope all in one go.”
@...Paul_Is_Drunk: Actually I don’t believe it’s a hatred against the smugness per se, I think people just don’t like people telling them what to do, or that they are wrong all the time, even if they are. Some folks will just hate you for it regardless of your intentions…
I think that develops into a hatred for that attitude, and any form of external expression that is associated with it (the smug grin, the upturned nose, etc) and they experience some form of catharsis with being able to wipe the smug grin off the face of a person who they feel has belittled them. I don’t think it’s about logic, it’s more about emotions…
That said, why would you feel the need to be smug about correcting someone? Would that not imply an overbearing attitude yourself? Both attitudes are equally flawed…
Well perhaps the idea of killing a woman for a smug look may be quite a lot more flawed, but… 😀

Not if you properly sacrifice her to a volcano. Then its a religious ritual and therefor protected.
oh God . . . I hope not.
If its a slow death, then it’s legal
remind me why we have to kill women again?
Its kind of a gray area.
I do not understand how this helps sell postage meters. Or anything else about it.
You can only kill them softly. With your song.
that weird bitch in the back left is creepin me out
@...JamesTuskGeorge: Me either. Maybe it’s referencing something particular that made sense at the time.

I still don’t know if I get it.
Oh God, I used to work for Pitney Bowes. There were plenty of workers there that I would have killed..
@...DasMaus: Wow. I think the original is even funnier. If the post is so important he can lick and post to his heart’s content. lol
Fuck that noise.
Hot redheads do not lick stamps.
Greasy, balding guidos in polkadot ties lick stamps.
Classic ads are awesome, though.
Is it always illegal? No. Especially not when she’s got that smug snobby look on her face… Then it’s a justifiable homicide…
@...Phyreblade: I’ve never understood the hatred against smugness.
If I know 2+2=4, should I not be smug about it when you claim 2+2=5? Meh, digression.
