IMO this is exactly the problem – you shouldn’t vote on somebody, just because somebody else said you should vote on them. You should do your own research, use your own fucking judgement, and not rely on “authorities” to tell you.
I think you hit the nail on the head, but only by being completely wrong. Everyone absolutely has to have authorities of some kind in their lives!
I’m definitely not going to spend my entire life trying to understand every subject to the Nth degree, and I rely on people that have taken their knowledge to the very cutting edge of their field to tell me the pros and cons of their specific field of expertise. I also trust them to get things wrong from time to time, but be able to explain why they were wrong and why they changed their minds.
My Pillow Guy is not one of those authorities. The 81 Nobel prize winners, they are, at least in their respective fields.
“Authorities of some kind”, as in teachers, mentors – yes, blind obedience to them – no.
If those 81 one recipients, took their knowledge of politics “to the very cutting edge”, I would be very, veeery careful about listening to them. If not, and they’re chemists, economists, physicians, physicists, writers, and Peace Nobel recipients (not necessarily ones that bomb other Peace Nobel recipients), then I find your logic about: “listening to the best in their field, missing a fuckton in this case.
TL;DR
Like I’ve wrote earlier, the problem is listening to others, instead of making your own fucking mind, and taking responsibility for it.
Though I get the allure of it:
“It’s not my fault, the Nobel Prize Recipient told me to do it”, “It’s not me, the Science was wrong”, “God wills it!”, etc.
No I didn’t, I just strongly don’t agree with it.
But then, I don’t live in a country when you vote for people, who then vote for your president. But I do live in country, that was more than once massively fucked up, by “following the leader”, “believing in authorities” approach. It preached “enlightenment”, “progress”, “equality”, “getting justice”, and all that “good stuff”, but what they brought was the opposite, and not for the countries they started in, but also their neighbors, and their neighbors neighbors, and so on.
So I don’t need your “enlightenment”, but it looks like you need “hands on” experience of what you propose.
P.S.
Current POTUS was brought to you, by blindly listening to others, and “good stuff” he was preaching.
Current POTUS was brought to us by a betrayal of the democratic party. but seeing how the republican party has behaved since dumpster fire became potus still leaves them as the better option
we do, but we also take the word of experts in their field. if 10 mechanics recommend one car and a pillow salesman recommends a different car , which would be the wiser to listen to? o right do my own research , I’ll buy both and compare them myself and come to my own conclusion . . .that’s what you’re saying basically , so no.
Well, It looks like you don’t, and the maniacal defense of: “we need authoritas!1111”, proves it.
How NPR (sans the Peace ones, maybe), are authorities in the field of politics ? If they aren’t, why this fucking shitstorm of yours? Brainwashed much? Guilty conscience? Hits too close to home? And, why the fucking fuck, you’d need “experts” to tell you for whom to vote, in the first place ? ?!!! Is this some American thing, I’m too non-American to understand?
“Wiser” would be to stick to the matter at hand (blindly voting), and not “fallacy it” into oblivion.
There’s no: “Politics” field\category, so no, I don’t. But looks like you should done your homework, before starting: “authorities endorse Biden”, “we must have authorities”, argument, when those authorities, are in completely different fields than the mentioned politics.
no one NEEDS the experts ,but when it comes to things like climate change we take their word before a pillow salesman. is that really so hard to understand?
Guess you blocked out the second sentence, of Tiki’s first response.
And if you don’t need them, why take their word, leg, or be in anyway concern about them?
because they have studied the problem a lot more than average joe “i’ll make up my own mind” , I don’t have millions of dollars to do research like the cdc or who , or scientists. do you?
There’s no: “Politics” category for Nobel Prize award .
If there’s no “Politics” category for Nobel Prize award, then getting “all riled up”, because Nobel Prize awardee endorsed some politician, is even dumber that the run of the mill authoritarian personality, that just overflows from this thread. Why? Because you’re listening to pillow salesman, for tips about cars. The “same” pillow salesman you dissed yesterday, and 3 days ago.
I’ve never been listening to the pillow salesman and you are apparently confused again. if the candidates both have different policies on pollution and climate change smart people would go with the candidate that has the overwhelming majority of scientific EXPERTS endorsing his plan. IS THIS SIMPLE ENOUGH FOR YOU? p.s. there are nobel prizes for science.
Yay, we’re getting forward-ish at last.
Now, change that click-bait image, and were somewhat good.
P.S.
Yes they are, and if you look at my second post, you’ll see sort of list of them. In short, 3 of 6 of them, are sciences in the “classical” meaning. None of them are politology\political science, though if you look some posts lower, you can find what I wrote about “Peace” category.
P.S. 2
“Political science”, is as much a “science” as Scientology.

definitely not teachers or mentors, you’re missing my point and I’m tired of trying to wedge enlightenment into other people’s brains.
maybe you need a new pillow? one filled with cocaine perhaps?

sounds like you’re wanting a list of all the prize winners and what their fields of expertise are in. sounds like homework for you, not for us.

I don’t know ho to put it simpler.

it’s just sad when I have to break down such a simple thing you should have realized on your own.
It’s so simple, one might call it “retarded”…
