They don’t fire that thing for more than 1 or 2 seconds at a time. Partly to conserve ammo and avoid overheating. Partly because it slows the plane down, and risks stalling.
@...thelotuseater725: Indeed… Bulltproof glass, titanium armor… redundant control systems… and a BFG8000… LOL Heck I think I know what I want to be in when the zombie apocalypse occurs… Or if the planet goes all Mad Max… pockyclipse style…
It’s a nice idea, but it mostly comes from the idea that firing bullets has a higher damage to cost ratio than firing missiles. In anti-tank combat, this really hasn’t been the case very often. Sure these things can take down a tank like nothing else, but I’d like to see a similarly designed plane with underwing air-to-surface missiles with apex or efp warheads that cost as much as two seconds of firing from this gun, and see which one is more effective.
Wait till ur on the ground and there is nothing to support you and ur screamin for help, THIS is the most beautiful sight and sound you will ever hear. And the goddamn air farce wants to give it up cuz it ain’t sexy enough. Bastards!
Your right. They are taking them from the Penna Air Guard unit when they get back from their current deployment; and making them transport pogs or something. The ONLY good close support aircraft the Air Force has.
This is awesome.

+1
And that just made me spend 45 minutes reading wikipedia on random fighter aircrafts.
Fuck writing a comment…I’m going to work.
It costs $40000 to fire this weapon for 12 seconds.
Who touched Sasha?
EAAAARS WEEEERE BLEEEEEEEEDING!

I love The A-10. It’s a freakin cannon with wings… This is just total and uncompromising Win.
luv it!
This plane is said to be one of the most feared weapons in the Iraq Conflict. I’d be scared too since it is practically a flying tank.

the A-10 Thunderbolt II mounting a GAU-8, the very best close air support there is.
When you absolutely, positively, have to kill every single Commie tank in East Germany; accept no substitute.
@hvymetal86:
RULE 34 ON THE GAU-8!!!!!!
