still, dont see a reason why a DM would go out sans any gear what so ever. He doesnt even have any first line gear on. Im doubting that this pic was taken more than 100′ from where he slept the night before.
Or (and I have seen this many times) the idiot beside him doesn’t realize even though his line of sight is clear to his target, his barrel may be obstructed by the wall and he just shot a chip off into his buddies face. This would explain the no gear (not getting attacked, just shooting at things). Just a theory. A theory that happens with privates and weapons.
It’s situations like this that puts everything into perspective. Right now, he not worrying about getting his car to the garage, he’s not wasteing his time playing a fucking x-box game that cost way to much, or concerning himself if he’s putting enough money into his retirement. All he is thinking about is living to the next moment. It’s hard for many to understand if they have not experience this type of situation, but it can be truly liberating.
Yeah, no helmet, no body armor, just a t-shirt (I thought it was blue and non-regulation, good thing I looked again), and camo on the boots? Definitely non-regulation. And I don’t know shit, that’s just what I’ve picked up off my sons.
If I remember correctly, the story here is that these Marines in Afghanistan were having some down time after a mission or something at their outpost when they were attacked. Looks like they got a little complacent.
@...FlyingMantisShrimp: As for the “non-reg” stuff, I believe that shirt is reg. Looks like it’s just a normal, dark green undershirt that’s been sweated in and beat up for a little while. The boots looks normal, just quite a bit dirty and beat up(no surprise).
When a unit is out on patrol or “in the mess,” so to speak, they can sometimes afford to play fast and loose with the regs. That is, sometimes commanders will allow their troops to maybe unblouse their pants legs, maybe roll their sleeves up a bit, etc. That being said, though, there are MANY units out there more concerned with how their guys and girls look than how comfortable they are doing the job.
My MPs are Army, not Marine, so maybe the boots are reg, just not for Army. The shirt looks fine to me, it looked blue to me the first time I saw the pic, so that’s probably an internal problem. 🙂
Now that I know more about the story behind it, it sounds much more plausible.
Damn FMShrimp, that was so accurate it almost scary. Not only did Caio troll along (inside less an hour), but then the loser returned within a minute. Good call!
if I ever meet this soldier, first question I’d want to ask him is:
where was your helmet?
@MalcoveMagnesia:
Agreed!
Maybe it was some kind of super ammunition, and the elmet was exploded of his head.
The Marine has a full length rifle with an ACOG on it. My bet is that he a designated marksman, ‘specially with a grip-pod on the fore end.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a surprise attack on this soldier near his base/camp.
I wonder what’s with the guy you can barely make out in the background. Hopefully return fire.
Its not a cloud of dust, its just his new hair do.
close call indeed.
WTF, No brain bucket?
@...Recondomoe:
brains? what brains?

Good times, good times.

@...Nimbo: That’s my bet.

/Myth Busters.
I didn’t even realize I had done that, haha.
Caio should be along any minute now to troll.
@...PMS: Jesus Christ PMS, you are obsessed with me or something.
Am I all you think about when you’re alone, PMS?

I hope he makes it back intact.
The helmet does not stop bullets…
you know; just for the record.
Whoa! Shit! Those guys are really pissed.
