    George Lucas was never a “gifted filmmaker”. He was just the Stephenie Meyers (author or Twilight) of his generation, ie, someone who made millions thanks to their writing despite having less understanding of story, characterization, and/or plotting than the average TMNT slash fiction writer.

    True, they all die- but that’s not the end of the story. Because Indy and Marion are there to use the Nazi radio and call the US Military, the ark was put into safe storage in the US and not sitting out for the Nazis (who would come looking for the submarine) to find and bring back to Berlin. And because Indy was a witness to the ark’s power the Americans knew not to try and use it themselves.
