Not with him on this one. Lack of convenience is no excuse for thievery (and don’t even start trotting out the whole ‘I’m supporting by circulating’ or ‘libraries are free’ boilerplate free-media horseshit.)
If he’s really interested in supporting those who make the shows, he’d at least wait for the fucking DVD.
Oatmeal – don’t pay for shit

Totally with you on that one, splodey.
but maybe he _will_ buy the dvds/blurays?
Another good
bit of advice from The Devil.
1) Game of Thrones exec says pirating is great for business: “We’ve been dealing with this for 20, 30 years—people sharing subs, running wires down the backs of apartment buildings. Our experience is that it leads to more paying subs. I think you’re right that Game of Thrones is the most pirated show in the world,” he said. “That’s better than an Emmy.” www.adweek.com/news/television/bewkes-game-thrones-piracy-better-emmy-151738
2) Between the million dollar lawsuits, misrepresentation of facts, and international acts of extortion and coercion, many people, such as myself, have a deep resentment for the the MPAA and RIAA. Added, the comic here, I think, does well to represent that tactics like DRM and artificial release delays make it much easier to engage in piracy than trying to engage with these companies. Many people have made the argument that, rather than adapting to changing market, the MPAA’s attempts to use force to combat piracry permanently alienated many of its potential customers a long time ago.
3) I just don’t value TV enough to pay for it. In fact, I pride myself on my lack of TV. I have a cheap internet connection, and I stream the few shows that I like watching. From time to time, I download a season of Game of Thrones or Walking Dead, and, on rare occasion, I download a movie. I watch them, then delete them. I pay $30/month. Meanwhile, my girlfriend pays almost $150 and has had constant battles over inaccurate charges from her service provider.
how do you live without cable? its like not having a cell phone.
out of my 10 random friends that I asked, only one has cable.
“Lack of convenience is no excuse for thievery (and don’t even start trotting out the whole ‘I’m supporting by circulating’ or ‘libraries are free’ boilerplate free-media horseshit.)”
So, you’ve paid for all the comic book images at the bottom of this page?
You actually LOOK at the shitty porn-pin-up fan art in those links –let alone equate it with a free/bootlegged comic?! Please.
On the 60$ paid for the DVDBox less than 1$ benefits actual creators of the show 59$ is for maintain monopolys of big corps & exploitation of hard-working people.
1st financial transparency from these big corps then we’ll talk about morality of the consumers
The morality comes first. Everything after that is just quibbling over price. A thief that won’t steal from the poor is still a thief.
And if there’s no transparency, where are you getting your numbers from?
This is essentially the kind of person most people are now. Whiny and self-entitled. “I want this, I deserve it, and I’m going to steal it because fuck everybody else, I want it.”
