Reader voices strong opinion on atheists

takethat.jpg

It’s time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don’t believe in God, then get out of this country.

The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe.

I don’t recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even says, “In God We Trust.” So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country.

Atheists have casued the ruin of this great nation by taking prayer out of our school sna being able to rpactice what can only be called evil. I don’t care if they have never committed a crime, atheists are the reason crime is rampant.

Wow.

Just wow.

[EDIT: Thanks to Dave, we now know this is a real letter from Alaska]

Just look at most of Europe for places with less crime and more atheists (not that the variable of religion is really even a factor in most crimes). It’s really sad that these people exist, and it’s even more sad that most of them will probably never realize how ignorant and childish they are.

I think there’s a related picture that was posted on myconfinedspace.com a little while ago…a bunch of scientists declare ‘there is no god’, then they start mentioning how they’re going to murder someone, and one scientist says he going straight home to rape his 8 year old boy…that picture was hilarious

    Ando

    sounds good! linkage!

Yeah, the pic comes from the webcomic Apocamon, which puts all of the insanity of Revelations into manga-esque form. www.e-sheep.com/apocamon/

I read somewhere that the ‘in god we trust’ thing was only added after WWII. No clue if that’s true, or how it affects the article, though… It’s pretty hard to look it up without going to the library, due to the lack of insane sources on the net about religion in the states.

I worship God by getting drunk and handing out copies of my manifesto on the highway off ramp to people stuck in traffic. I call it ‘makesaboutasmuchsenseasgettingonyourkneesandthinkingrealhard…ism’.

“In God We Trust” first appeared on some coins during the Civil War. Since 1938, it’s appeared on all US coins.

In 1956 (the hieght of McCarthyism), the US changed its national motto from E Pluribus Unum to In God We Trust, and in 1957 was permanently adopted for all US currency. It first appeard on paper money in 1957.

It’s always a yuck to make fun of the yahoos, but without context this isn’t too interesting. Was this published, for example, in The Onion? Or some right wing Christian Rag? Or the New York Times? It matters. Does anyone have a clue where this comes from?

This is not a Christian response.

They may be trying to be Christian but they’re missing it.

Ugh… Yes, Soldotna is in Alaska. I live in Anchorage (not born or raised in AK), many of the people in this state are a bit off (read: mean and stupid)- but few places are worse than Soldotna for retards like this. My job requires me to speak to people in every corner of Alaska, and when I know the person is in Soldotna I prepare for the onslaught of retardation I’m about to battle.

It’s time to stomp out water drinkers in America. The majority of Americans would love to see water drinkers kicked out of America. If you don’t believe in soda pop, then get out of this country.

The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can drink any carbonated beverage you want (Pepsi, Coke, Jolt, etc.), but you must imbibe.

I don’t recall freedom of soda meaning no soda. Our currency even says, “This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private.” So, to all the water drinkers in America: Get off of our country.

Water drinkers have caused the ruin of this great nation by taking vending machines out of our schools and being able to practice what can only be called evil. I don’t care if they have never committed a crime, water drinkers are the reason crime is rampant.

    Rieux

    Wrote Diane:
“All I could think of is
WHat would Jesus say reading something like that?”

Well, in Matthew and Luke’s Gospels Jesus tells a parable in which the “nobleman” who represents God and/or Jesus himself tells his subjects, “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” (Look it up: Luke 19:27 and Matthew 25:30.)

So given that Jesus is on record advocating the mass slaughter of people who didn’t accept God, I think he would have been pretty cool with Ms. Shannon’s letter.

“How some people twist religion is beyond me[.]”

Yeah. The idea that the Jesus of the Gospels was a nice guy (though he, mysteriously, condoned slavery and screeched repeatedly that people he didn’t like were going to HELL) has always struck me as mighty odd.

Now here is a curious thing. It is believed by everybody that while [God] was in heaven he was stern, hard, resentful, jealous, and cruel; but that when he came down to earth and assumed the name Jesus Christ, he became the opposite of what he was before: that is to say, he became sweet, and gentle, merciful, forgiving, and all harshness disappeared from his nature and a deep and yearning love for his poor human children took its place. Whereas it was as Jesus Christ that he devised hell and proclaimed it!

Which is to say, that as the meek and gentle Savior he was a thousand billion times crueler than ever he was in the Old Testament – oh, incomparably more atrocious than ever he was when he was at his very worst in those old days!

Meek and gentle? By and by we will examine this popular sarcasm by the light of the hell which he invented.

About the taking the prayer out of school thing a quote from the show “Bullshit” on showtime.
“We all belong to a club, called the USA. As members we pay dues, called taxes to support public governement operated schools. And those schools have to run according to the club handbook, the Constitution. Now the club says our club says we steer clear of religion, thats the deal we made. If we pay for it with taxes it cant have religion in it. Thats in the pesky bilaws, so as long as were paying, no religion in school. And no magic in Church”
and one of the most hypocritcal quotes ive ever heard (on CNN no less) is “freedom from religion in no way means freedom FROM religion…)

And they cant really object the taking prayer out anyway since now where I live (Cobb County Georgia) they are now teaching Creationism/Intellegent Design along side Evolution as “Science” in High School Biology as of 2005. So glad I graduated before that went into effect.

I hope the children of Soldotna respect their elders, or else bears will kill them.

From The Holy Bible, 2 Kings 2:23-24:

“And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them”

I live in Anchorage and have a few things to say. Alaska IS part of the US. If you don’t think so, why are we having so many funerals for GI’s killed in Iraq? Second, Alaska IS full of nut cases like this lady from Soldotna. They come here thinking they can lose themselves from the likes of me, an atheist. I’d love to “get off” but I want Dick Cheney to kiss me first! NOT!!

    To Rieux:

Without making a theological argument about the passages you cite, which I expect you’re not interested in–The only evidence anybody has for what Jesus was like is what the writers of the New Testament say, and what they can be inferred to have believed. The gospels and Acts show no evidence that the first Christians murdered anybody for differing beliefs–so that, even if this did happen, the New Testament authors clearly don’t depict it as a prescribed part of Christian life, as they would have done if they had understood this parable to command murder. Based on the fact that the parable of the talents is included in the gospels at all, the author(s) clearly valued it and understood it to mean something–something other than a commandment to murder unbelievers.

All of which is to say, please don’t just extract biblical quotations to make a point. Doing so is treating the Bible as the simple, literal history that fundamentalists make it out to be instead of a very old, very odd text with a great many beliefs overlaid on it.

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.” (I Corinthians 14:34-35)

let me get this straight, illegal imigrants come in by the thousands, take american jobs and live off welfare which raises our takes, but u want to get rid of the only logical thinkers in american “atheists” we’ll pass gay marriages but if you dont believe in god ur outa here, haha, christians fuck up this country not atheists

    Greg Laden

How do you take a job AND live off welfare? Can I do that?

    Jesus' big brother Daryl

freedom of religion does mean we have the right to no religion. this country was created to get away from the church’s grasp on every aspect of peoples lives. the church was cruel and in the very sense of the word… evil. you actualy believe that crap about Jesus giving up his throne as king of the universe to save you. sounds like a bad science fiction novel, a really bad one. sounds like mythology. what’s next, Jesus is gonna come down here and kill all who don’t believe? oh… my bad… you DO believe that, don’t you! you can say what you want, but i smoke crack with jesus, and he sais it’s all just a bunch of bull! haha- funny story, one time i slept with Jesus’ mother, Mary. she said she lost her virginity when she was 11 years old to a donkey. the whole “virgin mother” thing, she said it was all her father’s idea to say that she was a virgin b/c he didn’t want the villagers to think he had raised a “loose woman.” (his words, not mine.)
    true story

Jesus calls his family “the Grizwalds!”
he sais his family has never been all there, if you know what i mean. you probably don’t b/c you’re obviously not all there either, but whatever, right?

question- what kind of father leaves his kid behind, and never comes back to get him? and the world is a big scary place too, you know. i mean, he didn’t even do nothing to help his own son when everyone was torturing and killing him. yeah… that Yoway is a great guy! i know i spelled it wrong you fool, but what’s the difference? it’s a name of nothing that exists! it is a cool name though. Yoway… say that ten times fast! (it’s funny)
alright, well it was nice to offend you and remember…

Jesus sais- “don’t forget to change you bong water.)
