    They only look large next to the tiny North Korean guy. Virtually the entire country is undernourished, adult North Koreans are on average about 2.5 inches shorter than South Koreans.

    They had to lower the minimum recruitment height to 4 feet 5 inches in order to meet recruitment goals in north korea (average height of 4 foot 6 and 102 pounds average weight). 30+ years of impoverishment is making them small.

    edit: also the US and south korea typically send tall soldiers off to such events as an intimidation factor.

    I noticed that as well, but then I thought the US armed forces print a soldier’s family name rather than his or her Christian name on issued uniforms, don’t they?
