The movie seems to be following a storyline from the early 80s from his self titled comic book where he traveled to Japan (again, since he lived there after WWI). He fights a chick named Deathstrike and picks up a super katana.
This was the 80s, when ninjas and samurai were on top of their popularity. There wasn’t much of an internet to comment on it, but the letters to the editor did point out that Logan of all people had the least use for a sword of any Marvel character.
I dont understand why he needs a sword.
