Yes, it was about separation of church and state. They wanted the state to have less power over the church. People now think that the church has power over the state, and really its just that the ‘ethics’ of our ‘politicians’ have to do with their ‘religion’ and use their ‘religion’ to say why they have those ethics. I think what we need is separation of state and politicians.
This is where all those asshats really screw up on their constitutional history about the so-called “seperation of church and state” idea. It’s really about the government not creating an official state religion, it’s not about completely taking all religous aspects out of our government.
