I guess I should quote Bill Hicks, since no one else can say it better,
“Non-smokers, this is for you and you only, ready?
Non-smokers die every day. Sleep tight.
See, I know you entertain some kind of eternal life fantasy because you do not smoke cigarettes. May I be the first to pop that little fucking bubble of yours, and send you hurtling back to the truth? You’re dead too.”
Aw fuck, Tony beat me too it. Seriously, though, what the fuck were they thinking when they made it? Even the slightest amount of reflection (1-2 seconds for most people) should tell you that everyone does die. I mean seriously, what the fuck, was some ad exec sitting in his office smugly thinking to himself, “I will never die, ever. Those smokers are suckers.”
Fearing death the point of serious self-delusion is largely a cultural feature anyway. In some crazy, inferior cultures, they value quality of life over living till 120. Fucking crazy eh?
This looks like the American cemetery at Omaha Beach. If that’s true, this ad is an even bigger sack of BS for even using that memorial for something completely unrelated.
But it’s true, though. If you smoke, you’ll die. The only people who live longer than nonsmokers have names like Zeus, Hermes, Xenu, etc.
Yeah, I thought it was the Normandy cemetery. Just couldn’t remember the name. But that makes it even more devious. To dishonor that well-known site with this exploitative shoop (I can tell because of the pixels) is fucking disgusting.
I’m an ex-smoker. I like that I can smell things and workout now, but I am not about to tell other people not to smoke because they’ll die if they don’t quit. They’re still going to die. They’ll just raise everyone’s healthcare premiums until they do.
A lot of people have gotten very rich by exploiting people’s fear of death as a result of smoking.
It’s sick and demented and I wish I had thought of it first.
I know that smokers die younger, but that’s not what this add suggests. First of all, it suggests that non-smokers are a minority, which is not true in any country, and plays up the the ‘waa waa I’m oppressed’ attitude that virtually everyone cops nowadays. If I believed all the crying I’ve heard, I would have to think that every oppressed person in oppressing at least 20 other people to make all this oppression possible.
Second of all, it implies that non-smokers will literally live forever. Seriously, there is no other way to interpret this ad. Guess what: Live as healthy as you want, and you could be hit by a car tomorrow.
Thirdly: Unwarranted self-importance. Everyone on fucking earth knows that smoking is unhealthy. I don’t need a non-smoking Jesus to guide me into the light. Smokers know the risks, know the risks they present to others, and do not need some bitchy prophet playing mother to them. No one is asking you to save them, and you’re not a priest. Anti-tobacco people are insignificant slime like the rest of us except that are so devoid of purpose or fulfilment that they are willing to delude themselves into thinking they’re making a difference when in fact they are just very very annoying and repetitive.
If it were a WWII graveyard, and they’re unmarked graves wouldn’t that imply that they were jews? And if they were jews, why would they have crosses, instead of the star of david?
If anyone would like to join me in writing TBWA about this disrespectful and inappropriate ad, their website is www.tbwa.com and their PR guy is Jeremy Miller, email jeremy.miller@tbwaworld.com. These soldiers didn’t die to be poster boys in a PSA, and the agency didn’t even have the respect to completely eliminate the names and dates from the headstones.
The disrespectful no talent hacks also did a poor job cloning the area without the markers. Really, how long would it have taken to clone out the names? Most of those soldiers gave their lives fighting commies back when smoking was good for you. I don’t smoke, but I also don’t care what other people do as long as it doesn’t affect my rights.
Bill Hicks was a prophet! We should posthumously elect him as president.

I dont care if people smoke.
I care if they smell really bad of it, because it stinks. =p
Especially peoples breath. Gross.

I don’t smoke anymore, but seriously….who wants to live to be 90 anyway?

Of course we will all die but, its a fact that non-smoker live longer and, wothout the pain of the diseases suffered by those who smoke.
Also, smoking can become in cases of impotence. HA-HA!
@magnus: Totally agree.

Hugh Hefner?
I also thought this appeared to be an altered picture of a WWII graveyard.
This angers me greatly.
I hate smokers as much as the next man, but to resort to this blasphemy?
If it were a WWII graveyard, and they’re unmarked graves wouldn’t that imply that they were jews? And if they were jews, why would they have crosses, instead of the star of david?
There’s definitely names and dates on those grave markers.
Oh, so there are! Didn’t see that first time around.
Living healthy is just the slowest form of dying.

I agree; this is wrong
