Myths? Samurai slit open their stomachs and had their heads cut off if they disobeyed and/or dishonored. Samurai were master swordsman and masters of warfare. Japanese people are disciplined to the furthest exreme. Their traditional ceremonies prove it. That’s the gist.
Samurai/Chambara films and Westerns are related more then simply mythology. They both carry similar themes, heros and women seem to share the same place within their societies. Both are badass too. I could watch Leone, Kurosawa and Okamoto films all day.
Hara-Kiri mocks the Feudal system/ Samurai. Love it!
I almost don’t want to be a joykill on this. You seem to like the idea of a Samurai so much.
But I’ll just leave this nugget here.
The Samurai had a long history, and took on a variety of roles in that history. Therefore they changed and adapted with the times.
For instance, during the waring states period, Samurai wore heavy armor. They had Katanas, but the most common battlefield weapon was a Yari or black power rifle.
Later, during the Tokugawa period, is when the Samurai adopted the style what we see in most films, but even that fluctuated. For a period of time they were expected to use a Katana and nothing else.
I don’t want to be a killjoy but you’re life sucks because you’re a retard and you refuse to face that fact. Now fuckoff, retard <—btw that's how you use a comma
The Samurai aren’t myths crafted by film. They are crafted by historical documents and tradition.
Ninjas are myths, however. Rarely will they don the black ninja outfit you see. Most often wear disguises as servants and the like. Being caught in that ninja outfit pretty much means your dead. Much safer to look like you belong there.
(And the ninja would never wear black, as black stands out even in the dark. They would have worn colors such as dark blue instead)
Hollywood pretty much just took what they thought was cool about the ninja and made it seem like only that.
I hope you get the message to stop uploading pics
Most of what people believe about the Samurai is a myth crated by films. Much like the myths behind the cowboy.
How’s it hangin’, P-dog?

I didn’t say Samurai were myths.
Rurouni Kenshin = truth.
If this were a hara kiri, he wouldn’t have his katana in front of him – he’d have a tanto, a shorter blade, to disembowel himself.
Its in his belt.
No-one said it was depicting a harakiri. It’s a scene from a film called Harakiri.
Tom Cruise was the last one.
Watch the movie again. Tom Cruise’s character was never a Samurai. Katsumoto was the last Samurai.
So which is the way of the samurai? To protect it’s people or to serve it’s master?

Just watched 13 assassins yesterday and i must say that i am pleased
200 vs 13
oh and it’s Harakiri, one word. or you can say Seppuku.

Image discussion: why are they “training”? when one of their fellow Samurai is about to perform Harakiri
That’s another way I found it spelled on the internets.
They aren’t training here. He is delaying the ceremony… That is all I can say without spoiling.
Holy balls! It’s the Japanese Ryan Reynolds!!!
