It looks like they are robbing the US costumers, actually.
In Australia, new release PS3/Xbox games cost at least $AU80.
at todays rate that’s $US86, give or take a bit. For some publishers it’s just as bad on Steam/D2D etc too.
America is cheap. (this is probably not a bad thing)
I bought two copies of Portal 2 (Pre-ordered to get 20% off) for US$79.98, and it cost me AUD$78.45. It looks like Valve are not evil. (I’ve not actually seen any publishers on steam charge badly, but I haven’t exactly been searching for it either.)
iTunes is crap though, last I checked they were charging 50% more for the same song in Australia, and as the AUD got stronger, it only got worse. (I don’t have iTunes installed, so I can’t confirm it, but I suspect that US 99c songs are still about AUD$1.50, despite our dollar being stronger at the moment)

this isn’t really a conversion rate error, different countries have different tax laws and companies can of course decide to sell their products for varying amounts of currency in other countries, there is no ONE price for a product. Only because the US economy is down and something can be bought cheap there, doesn’t mean that this is the price it should be sold in the rest of the world.
So US-made goods shouldn’t get cheaper as their currency loses value? Is there some reason that US should be immune to the dynamics of economy that they exploited for so many years?
because that’s just not how it works, the same would then also apply if an economy is doing great. Should you pay more for a PS3 just because the Yen is on an all-time-high? Of course not.
Well you should actually… The company might decide to sell it at a lower profit, but they can only do so much. If it comes to a point where Sony loses money on selling at current prices because of the exchange rate. Then yes they have to charge more for the PS3.
I’m from Norway, so i’m used to everything beeing more expensive here than the rest of the world. But the price difference in this case is insane. 220 euro difference between EU & US does’nt make sense.
