I laugh at the fact we, as humans and artists, haven’t been able to imagine other beings that don’t have the typical traits of eyes, nose, mouth, arms, fingers, etc.
It’s almost as if each creature (or alien or whatever) is modeled after us.
The odds of an alien environment being so drastically different from ours that life there follows such a distinctly different evolutionary path from ours that they don’t share even the basic components of life here in a solar system close enough to us that we’d ever encounter them are crazy as shit, son.
Also it’s alot easier for a writer to write from the point of view of something vaguely mammalian than that of a cloud of thought and energy whilst maintaining a coherent and entertaining storyline.
You’re completely ignoring our point. Our physical traits were decided by our environment, and the odds are that an alien race would have at least a vaguely similar environment.
These dudes, at least, come from somewhere with an oxygen atmosphere that’s probably largely savannah.
Dude, the artist is trying to tell us that what we fear the most from aliens we are also capable of doing to ourselves. They are us. We are the enemy. Oh. Mah. Gawd.
All of you just stay the fuck back. You god damned reptilio-centaurs won’t take me alive!
It has been done, on Star Trek alone, more than once. These are stories; we need characters we can understand and empathize with, yet just different enough that we have to work at it.

No, they’ve been able, but until we actually see an alien, anything we come up with that doesn’t have something familiar in it will look laughable.

True, any life form that does evolve will most likely have eyes, ears, mouths, etc, because these are extremely useful components.
Only because WE have ’em as useful components, we can’t even fathom other useful components that we don’t have.

Point well taken.
How would that apply to an alien interpretation outside of Earth, and with no humans involved?

I’m an Alien, suck my diiick
I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords
Well, at least these ones aren’t bipedal. Space-centaurs!
would have been cooler if Obama had been in it.
Zoats? Haven’t seen these guys in ages.
