I used to love Star Blazers when I was a kid. This live-action movie came out in Japan December 1st. I haven’t heard if it’s good or not but I’ll see it as soon as I can get a subtitled DVD in the US anyway.

Star Blazers was the BEST. Although EVERYTHING was solved with the wave motion gun.
“captain, we’re under attack!”
“FIRE THE WAVE MOTION GUN!!”
“captain, we’re headed into the sun!”
“FIRE THE WAVE MOTION GUN!!”
“captain, I can’t open this can of peas!”
“FIRE THE WAVE MOTION GUN!!”
And so on
It’s like Voltron. The team would get thrashed for 10 minutes until they’d go Voltron and stomp on the bad guy. Makes you wonder why they didn’t just go Voltron as soon as they saw trouble. I haven’t seen Star Blazers in a while, but I don’t think they had to be getting their asses kicked to fire the WMG. I think they just had to have a big single target to fire it at. But they did use it about once per episode as the big finish to the fight.
This looks great, I put it on my list.
