It’s mainly caused by lazyness, you can configure those things to not be that big/annoying, not sure if you can change the rollover behaviour to on-click.
I shouldn’t have to configure my software not to respond to crap like this.
people who design web sites should not inflict this kind of crap on people. it’s kinda like the <blink> tag: nobody uses it any longer, because it is annoying!
NoScript + Adblockplus = I never deal with this shit. It even cuts the video ads out of the shows on southparkstudios.com and a few other streaming video sites!
It’s also for people who don’t want to waste time loading the 20+ scrips that some pages load every time you visit. You surf a lot quicker with NoScript and you can always load a script if you need it.
Fuck, that shit is awful.
Fuckin’ A, brother. That goddamn thing.
Amen.
Too true, they bug the hell out of me. I’ve added a custom addthis filter to AdBlock.
Just install the NoScript addon for Firefox. You can then block addthis.com from all websites.

I wasn’t calling the user lazy, I was calling the webmaster lazy for not configuring the utility correctly.

NoScript is for paranoid “OMGTEHWEBATTAXME” surfers. It’s the tinfoil hat of the internet.

Why run code when you don’t want what it does?
Because you have to re-configure the damn thing to let it do the things you want it to.
I can understand not wanting to run certain scripts, but ALL of them? Then nitpicking the ones you do want to run? Seriously.
This is the result of the “I want my page to load x50 faster” because 3 seconds is agonizing to you people.
