F-14 Unit cost US$38 million in 1998 -Wiki
$38 million dollars would buy 190 million school lunches in the third world – EducationGuardian.co.uk
$38 million dollars would buy 76000 cows through Heifer International www.heifer.org
$38 million dollars would buy 25 million school books in Indonesia.epaa.asu.edu/epaa/v7n7.html
Your house costs $250,000+ (or so, depending on where you live)
Your car costs $15,000+ (or something)
Your Wii/Xbox/PS3 costs $400 (or whatever)
That fancy dinner at Outback Steakhouse was $50, when you could have bought steaks at the store and had the same meal at home for half the price.
Why not live in a trailer and ride a bike everywhere, and send your money overseas? Yes, there are far more important things that could be done with the money spent on our countries defense/offense, but, like my dad always says, “Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”
He can’t know that for sure.
But he can infer that kimwim owns a computer, a home in which that computer resides, as well as power and internet access for that computer.
Something that most of the people kimwim has all this empathy for most assuredly do not.
All that being said, the F14 is a maintenance intensive, over engineered, tempermental, fuel sucking, component burning hunk of shit that the F18 Superhornet flies rings around.
true, but all of those alternatives are also things that the aforementioned victims probably don’t have either. Except for cell phones. Why is it that in all these third world hell holes people live in mud houses and eat dirt and bath once a decade but they all have frickin cell phones?

actually, iran cannot find parts for their f14s. they have a whole fleet sitting on the ground and one or two actually still flying… and they only fly because parts are being taken from the other planes.
garbledxmission, what you on about fool? each jet plays its own role, there are missions that the F-14 can do that the F-18 cannot doe, newer does not necessarily infer better!!
I personally LOVE the F-18 myself (Love the F-22 even more) but never underestimate a fighter due to its age!!

Why must you assume that kimwin owns a house or car or buys steak at Outback?

The computer could be in a library.
Or maybe kimwin does this from a phone, and if that’s true, mass props for paragraph writing skils.
Or a laptop.
None of those would require a home, though they’d still be likely.

Don’t forget satellite TV.

is now flown by Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Thats all very well and good, weighing up performance and cost and all that jazz, but you seem to be forgetting one key thing….
the Euro Fighter is cheaper, faster, more manueverable, more powerful and is the most technologically advanced fighter in the world!
p.s it’s beacause it’s british, and we make better planes than you…
@Alpha Harrison: The post a damn picture!
Everytime I see one around here, I don’t have my camera, and it’s rare to see them around here to start with (Jacksonville, FL!)
