I don’t like how they’re handling this guy’s abilities. Suddenly this supposed apprentice is kicking everyone’s ass, including Vader, who pretty much looks like a bitch in every ad I’ve seen.
One of the many, many things I dislike about Star Wars is the way the Force went from being a subtle kind of spiritual ESP in the first movie to being able to wipe out armies with a wave of a hand.
The force represents chi and the duality that is everyones reality. So the force has a spiritual side and a vicious violent one (Yin/Yang). Chi energy works the same way. I know this because I study martial arts and have felt them both.
I mean it fails as a story-telling device. In the first movie we’re given two examples of people who deny that the Force even exists (Han Solo and the imperial guy who gets choked). That’s denial is plausible if the Force is mostly subtle mental manipulations (like convincing a stormtrooper to let you pass or making a person think they’re choking). But if Jedi can throw people into the air and shoot lightening out their ass, it makes the denialists look more than a bit retarded. It also makes it necessary to retcon the Force into something that only special people can do, instead of something that Obi-won offered to teach to Han, implying that anyone can do it.
The Force only seemed subtle because we were introduced to it through a man of subtleties – Obi Wan Kenobi. If you look at the six movies, Kenobi hardly used the Force. Instead, he relied on diplomacy and charm. Anakin had none of that; he was a chaos agent. His use of the Force was at will and whim. Likewise, Starkiller is just a wrecking ball. Luke’s character is more like Kenobi and Yoda with a twinge of Anakin. However, Luke was more a dreamer and visionary, so his use of the Force support him in that.
Also, know that Han was once an Imperial cadet. He was indoctrinated into the way the Imperials think (anti-spiritual). Because the Jedi are in hiding, the only examples of Force powers that he could see could be demonstrated by Vader and the Emperor (both inaccessible to Solo). Additionally, a lot gets lost in a generation. I think the span between 3 and 4 was about 40 years. Enough for a generation to die out and their first-hand knowledge of Jedi workings.
“I think the span between 3 and 4 was about 40 years. Enough for a generation to die out and their first-hand knowledge of Jedi workings.”
Why would you think that? Luke and Leia are born at the end of 3, they both seem to be in their early twenties at the beginning of 4. that puts the span between the two movies at 20-25 years, tops. Han is about 10 years older than both of them, so he should have remembered the Clone Wars first hand. There’s no plausible explanation of why everyone forget about real, tangible superhuman powers in 25 years.
You are right on that point. I forgot the short amount of years between 3 and 4. Plausibility is another matter. The emperor deceived most of the galaxy and the Jedi of his identity and intentions for several years. It’s possible he could deceive his own servants as well. What did Baudilaire say “the best trick the devil pulled was to convince you he doesn’t exist!”
Good explanation, except the span between 3 and 4 was about 17 years. Otherwise, Luke and Leia would have been 40 when A New Hope started. That is the one thing that always bugs me. There just wasn’t enough time for people to completely forget about the Jedi and/or the Force
and thats my problem with 1,2&3. the books written after RotJ imply that there was alot more than 20 years since the clone wars, and Jedi were few and far between at that point.
Judging by the title, this game is about using the force in new and powerful ways; hence “unleashed.” The stormtrooper getting shredded is particularly awesome and particularly not in the movies. Also, if the force is so subtle, how come Luke picks up a whole fucking X-Wing? Also, I don’t remember any armies getting slaughtered by the force in the prequels. Just force-pushing some lame-ass battle droids.
As opposed to Qui-gon making the battle tanks do backflips and de-orbiting the droid control ship at a trajectory that would cause it to burn up in the atmosphere, or crash into one of the other ships. Which would be equal parts dues ex machina and fucking awesome.
Speaking of reentry, has anyone else noticed that it’s a piece of cake in Star Wars, when in real-life doing it at even the slightly wrong trajectory will turn the exceptionally heat-shielded space shuttle into an expensive meteorite? And all of the planets in the galaxy would have atmospheres with different densities and compositions, so it’d be different for each planet. Actually, just about every science-fiction story I’ve ever seen or read forgets about that.
Star Trek come pretty close
This game(and the prequel) is obviously a sideline in the main story of Star Wars, they just made it cuz they knew it would be awesome, and I’m sure loads of fans wanted to play some jedi/sith who can zap around like crazy and blow up cruisers just by winking
I had to unleash the bulging erection in my pants.
If you’re stuck on the Logic of it all, mute the cutscenes. “Unleashed” comes the closest to emulating the reckless use of the Force you wish you had as kid. That alone is enough to enjoy the game with.
Like those fucking robot troopers that looked like cheap knock off’s of Dark Trooper (phase 2)? Those fuckers pissed me the fuck off. How am I supposed to not get knocked off the fucking cliff if I can not get the fuck up before this fucking droid knocks me of a cliff with a piece of shit rocket? FUCK THIS SHIT THIS IS WHY I STOPPED PLAYING THIS FUCKING GAME.
Yeah, I can’t wait for it.

The guys a clone, trained to use the force by Vader himself. Not by some hobbit in the back swamps of some planet.
You wiped out some armies yet?
Soon.
Careful, you’re about to set off my BS detector.
I know this because I have studied religious morons.
:O
NO not Boba Fett
Aw shit, Boba’s not gonna like that.
He got bitchslapped in Dark Forces, so another beatdown is about due.
Just Vader ? Would like to see Palpatine zap his ass

Fury leads to Truth. Truth leads to Pain. Pain leads to Anger. Anger leads to the Force Unleashed.
You know what fucking sucked in the first game?
Getting knocked off cliffs.
