I suspect that the ideal doesn’t really factor in, except when asked what you consider beautiful. What percent of the population has anything close to the ideal? Not many, yet here we all are, getting married, having lots of sex and babies. People like what they know, what they understand, what they grew up w/. We tend to go for people we think we know and understand. That seems to be a more important to most people when choosing mates, than some ideal of beauty.

But that doesn’t change the fact there is a standard of beauty everyone’s mind will interpret as better.

I agree that there is a standard. It’s why we love to watch beautiful people do…anything. It just doesn’t really help to be beautiful. All one needs to be is not-ugly. In certain areas, that doesn’t even matter. I watched a documentary on beauty around the world and there was a segment on an Asian community (sorry, don’t remember which one) that bordered two countries. Their women put metal spiraling bands around their necks. Over time they kept adding more and more, stretching the neck up and/or shoulders down, giving them a strange look. One of the reasons given for this custom was that they used to get raided and the women kidnapped. Their plan to deal w/ this? Make themselves unattractive, as women. Over the generations and hundreds of years, they think it beautiful and think we look strange. Anything can become an ideal, given enough time and influence.
The imperfections are what make them get-able.

I’m not the kind of guy who goes for conventionally attractive women, and this picture is only taking into account yep, white American actresses. Say I’m in denial, say I’m a mental gymnast, say whatever you want, but women are so much more enjoyable to look at without surgery, makeup and photoshop… race is also a matter of taste, and this is just white chicks. I see Indian/Asian/Middle Eastern girls at my university all the time who absolutely make my jaw drop at how beautiful they are… yet would you ever see them starring in a movie or TV show? Probably not… because they don’t fit into middle class American ideals.
