    It more a governmental regulation failure than anything. We’re still using standards and practices for offshore drilling that was created in 1979 when drilling a mile down was unfathomable. Then nobody on earth has any contingencies in case of something like this happening. Complete fuck ups for everybody.

    You know the damndest thing? A nuke could actually fix that mess in the gulf. Granted, if the rock isn’t nearly as solid, the problem wouldn’t just be a few inky birds anymore.

    Actually the Russians supposedly had done this and it worked. But with the composition of the sea floor where the leak is it would cause a caldera type even, releasing billions of barrels. Which would be awesome.

    Guessing by the size of the mushroom cloud i’d say this is a fusion bomb. Contrary to popular belief fusion reactions give off much less damaging radiation than fission does. Unfortunately all our fusion bombs use a fission first stage to create the pressure needed for the fusion reaction to occur.
