The object at the right hand side of the mushroom cloud stem is the 562 foot long battleship U.S.S. Arkansas. That will give you an idea of the size of this early underwater detonation.
thanks, wallpapered forever. fantastic picture.
the tests they did back then were insane.
would it be stupid to say “i wonder what advances might have resulted from nuclear power if it were not for it beeing used as a weapon?”?
One minute you’re prancing on about how could obesity being an epidemic when you believe the US is the greatest country, as well having the most modern medicine.
Now here you are, apparently not seeing the fault in the Obama administration in this.
If this is your definition of trolling, you really ought to stop trying.
It more a governmental regulation failure than anything. We’re still using standards and practices for offshore drilling that was created in 1979 when drilling a mile down was unfathomable. Then nobody on earth has any contingencies in case of something like this happening. Complete fuck ups for everybody.
And which button on my keyboard do I us so I can prance on the internet?
You know the damndest thing? A nuke could actually fix that mess in the gulf. Granted, if the rock isn’t nearly as solid, the problem wouldn’t just be a few inky birds anymore.
Actually the Russians supposedly had done this and it worked. But with the composition of the sea floor where the leak is it would cause a caldera type even, releasing billions of barrels. Which would be awesome.
Guessing by the size of the mushroom cloud i’d say this is a fusion bomb. Contrary to popular belief fusion reactions give off much less damaging radiation than fission does. Unfortunately all our fusion bombs use a fission first stage to create the pressure needed for the fusion reaction to occur.

It’s not that big, it doesn’t even take up my entire monitor

Ohai guys, lets go to the beach. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Haven’t you guys been paying attention to the news today? That’s the oil plume now. BP went with the “fuck it, let’s just empty the well” method.
What’s your angle, really?

The contamination from this test was profound and persistent. There is a very good reason for the Nuclear Test Ban Treaties that are in place.
