LOL natedog is true why you just want to read a single text on the bible and used at your favor?
The bible is not just a book is a Library of books and every single text has a meaning and a purpose…
Please explain Leviticus 19:27 and 21:5. Do these verses mean that it is wrong to shave, or cut one’s hair?
It was the custom of some heathen nations to cut and trim their beards and hair into particular shapes in honor of some pagan god. The Egyptians, for example, had their hair cut short and in a certain way, so that what remained appeared in the form of a circle surrounding the head (the halo was derived from this). In another instance, a round spot would be shaved off. Both of these forms are indications of sun god worship.
Modern forms of such extremes include: extremely short or even no hair to intimidate (e.g., Nazis, skinheads); strangely cut, colored or spiked hair to intimidate, but also to attract undue attention (e.g., punk rockers, the more recent “Gothic” look, etc.); strangely cut and colored hair at sporting events (a form of idol worship); and many others.
Shaving one’s facial hair and the regular cutting of the hair on one’s head for normal good grooming however, is something totally different and, in fact, should be common practices for Christians. Please read I Corinthians 11:14-15. As with most things, moderation and respect should play the higher role and if in any doubt, “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (I Thes. 5:22).
… Dumbass. There is *no where* in Leviticus that says you can’t cut your hair. No where. If you’re going to try and argue semantics, have a fucking accurate argument.
If you wanted to say, though, that we were skipping the rules that state anytime a priest sins he has to offer a bull’s kidney, fat, and liver as a burnt offering or that you can’t have sex with a woman on her period or you have to eat kosher food, then it’d be a different story and correct.

Wow. someone’s a dumb ass because they conflate round off with cut, hmm? I Always love it when a pedant makes a total and complete fool of them self. Congratulations sir, you’ve just placed yourself below ‘troll’ on the internet ranking of unrespectedness*.
*please take me to task on the fact that this isn’t a real word. That’ll pound the nails into the coffin.
Okay. I admit I was kinda harsh there. Wish this site had an edit option. Still, it’s worth knowing that you were being a pedant and it did not bring you respect.
I’m pretty sure most homosexual rights activists are well aware that there are other writings which condemn homosexuality (they live with them every day). That someone rebuffs the most prolifically cited source at (what I’m assuming is) a gay right parade is hardly evidence that they are ignorant. The guy has roughly an 18 inch by 24 inch placard in which to display his viewpoint. Should he make commentary about an obscure, rarely mentioned argument against homosexuality or would it be better to confront the anti-homosexuality reference that is part of the foundation of three of the worlds’ largest religions?
In the future, you might find it useful not to assume ignorance in others, especially those who aren’t here to prove you wrong.
“That someone rebuffs the most prolifically cited source at (what I’m assuming is) a gay right parade is hardly evidence that they are ignorant.”
and once you re-read my post you’d see that I pointed out that those who are “prolifically cit(ing)” it are the same ones trying to rebuff it.
put simply for you
if you got beef with what the bible says, show some variety instead of going to the same laws that long ago governed a people i’m not associated with now.
it shows:
1. you know the book you’re condemning
2. you’re ready to counter/debate passages without loose paraphrasing (like the above) to fit your arguement

They brought it up and are then rebuffing it? That is decidedly true. What is the relevance of this fact?
“if you got beef with what the bible says, show some variety instead of going to the same laws that long ago governed a people i’m not associated with now.”
I’m sure everyone is very much concerned with what people you are associated with in their understanding of homosexuality. It sounds highly relevant. Please, go on.
“if you got beef with what the bible says, show some variety instead of going to the same laws that long ago governed a people i’m not associated with now.”
I love how people can pick and choose what part of the bible effects them. if the bible is holy law then shouldn’t everything in the bible effect you? or if something is inconvenient it doesn’t matter I’m not sure how it works.
Thank you for injecting an actual cohesive argument into this discussion.
There are many ways that people deal with this conundrum. Usually it boils down to something along the lines of the Bible is half literal word of God and half historical narrative of the Israeli people, complete with folklore and traditions, etc. The part that I hold dear is clearly the word of God and the stuff that I ignore are just the cultural traditions of the Israeli people at the time it was written down.
“I love how people can pick and choose what part of the bible effects them. if the bible is holy law then shouldn’t everything in the bible effect you? or if something is inconvenient it doesn’t matter I’m not sure how it works.”
Has nothing to do with picking-n-choosing. Isreal was a theocracy, those books were their law. i’m not an isrealite. not that hard a concept gentlemen, if we put on our thinking caps.
like the scriptures state (which you guys must know since you’ve read it before you decided to criticize it, right?) the law got crucified along with Jesus. christians are under the law of the christ not the mosaic law.
why is it in the bible? cuz its the word of God and there are plenty principles we can take from it. kinda like reading some other country’s constitution helps you better understand it’s government, people and society.
that being said
“In the future, you might find it useful not to assume” hypocrisy “in others, especially those who aren’t here to prove you wrong.”

nah bro, it brings the lulz
“Has nothing to do with picking-n-choosing. Isreal was a theocracy, those books were their law. i’m not an isrealite. not that hard a concept gentlemen, if we put on our thinking caps.”
You have done absolutely nothing to explain how Israel being a theocracy has any bearing on picking and choosing. Don’t blame us for your decision not to communicate your point. By the way you are framing your statements, I am led to believe that you’ve decided that this is a contest instead of a discussion and my trying to calmly and reasonably explain to you why you have not succeeded in communicating your point is going to fall on deaf, angry (or at least irritated) ears. That is unfortunate.
I would love to know how my comment was hypocrisy. You stated, “The real act of ignorance…etc” and I told you not to assume that others are ignorant simply because they haven’t said what you would have wanted them to do (in one particular photograph). As I said, the guy in the photo isn’t here to respond to your remarks. If he were, he might have some very insightful and well articulated remarks that could move this dialogue forward is ways far superior to anything you or I have to say on the matter.
I’m not the arbiter of how you lead your life (thankfully). If I were, I would suggest spending a little less time “bring[ing] the lulz” and more time learning how to communicate your position to others. You might have a genuinely insightful point about this picture and the subtext surrounding it. The problem is that no one knows this, because you haven’t made your case.
“You have done absolutely nothing to explain how Israel being a theocracy has any bearing on picking and choosing. Don’t blame us for your decision not to communicate your point.”
really? you’re going to let something this simple whizz pass you? ok buddy, allow me to make it easy for you:
ONE: Isreal was a theocracy, those books were *THEIR* law. *IM NOT AN ISREALITE* thus not under their law.
TWO: Col 12:13,14 *THEIR* law got crucified along with Jesus. christians are under the law of the christ *NOT* the mosaic law.

really dude? he’s making a loose (borderline incorrect) statement on a placard with his little brother’s sharpies, and that impresses you? LOL if thats the case, i know some pre-schoolers that WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.
“I would suggest spending a little less time “bring[ing] the lulz” and more time learning how to communicate your position to others.”
nah, i’m good.
Wow. It’s like you are incapable of learning. I’m done wasting my time on you. The fact that you used statements like “really dude?” as a response instead of an actual cohesive argument says so much more about you and your rhetorical skills than anything I could say. Go ahead and walk away from this thread patting yourself on the back for having totally schooled me. I assure you that you will be the only one who comes away with that interpretation.
And you can take half of those commandments away too if you have any common sense.
ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’
How about I just not worship any?
TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’
I think I’ll be OK breaking that one too.
THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’
Jesus Christ, that’s god damned retarded.
FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’
I remember that one of the commandments is not to kill either. But there’s one story I remember in the Old Testament is of a man picking up firewood on the Sabbath and some kids stoned him to death for it. Conflicting message there. Plus I like to sleep in on Sundays.
FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’
I do. But if I had shit parents I’d shit right back.
The other ones, don’t steal or kill or lie are obvious though.
the first commandment is always a good way to prove to other people that Christianity recognizes that there are other gods out there. I happen to follow the FSM
Don’t forget the one about not to cook a calf in its mother’s milk. Its in the other 10 commandments. Yeah, the bible has two, probably because there are two accounts of these events put together as one with clumsy bronze age cut and paste jobs.
2nd Commandment ends like this, and everyone always leaves it out:
for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Any religious person I’ve met uses their faith to manage themselves and be a better person.
Sorry but the gay community could use a lot of that.
Didn’t anyone ever winder why they are affected by AIDS more? Its because their communities accept and encourage a lifestyle that involves taking risks whether that be with recreational drugs or unprotected sex.
So ya maybe the bible says some dumb shit. But if following that dumb shit makes you less of a dumbshit then maybe spend less time whining about your rights and more time showing everyone you deserve them by adhering to whatever text helps make that happen.
AIDS affected the gay (by which I assume you mean white male homosexual Americans, because that’s the only demographic where gays have been disproportionately affected by AIDS. Ever been to subsaharan Africa? AIDS isn’t really a gay thing there) because no one knew that the disease existed, and so therefore didn’t take precautionary measures. Since people became aware of AIDS, the homosexual community has been on the forefront of education, donation for cure research, social outreach, and other efforts to curb the effect of this horrible disease, despite the fact that they are no longer anywhere near the population most devestated by this disease.
The gay community does not encourage a lifestyle that takes risks, homophobic America encourages a risk taking lifestyle by denying homosexuals the right to form legally recognized pairwise unions.
As always, the people who complain the most about other people “whining” ought to look in the mirror a little more often. They might find a person they’re not particularly happy to see there.
Africa is the exception you twit. You just hammered any validity for your perspective out the window like a gay man on a shaved anus.
AIDS affects gay people more WORLD WIDE. In Africa it affects everyone. It is completely different as the way of life is completely different. That’s just common sense.
The rest of your post is liberal bullshit.
The gay community DOES MOST CERTAINLY encourage a lifestyle of taking risks. Don’t fucking lie I hear about it every day. While I make fun of them as much as I want I do know real live gay people. I know the park fucking shit is real and they pretty much get down on dick whenever ad where ever they can. So fuckoff with the lying you fucking faggot.
You’re a complete liar and your kind of bullshit is only going to lead to more homos getting AIDS. You must really hate them a lot.
I don’t need to whine btw. I’m a straight white male. The world lives to please me like you live to please balls.
Religious people tend to differ from those people that use religion. I find it 100% possible that he knows people who have a faith and use it for self improvement. We all do, though we might not know it because they keep it to themselves and don’t proselytize. People who have an agenda of hate that use works of religion (i.e. the Bible), are far from religious. They cherry-pick parts of a book that meet their needs and make sure that everyone knows how much better than everyone else they are.
You can’t separate the religious in this manner. They all would call themselves religious. You can go up to any of the Phelps cult and tell them they aren’t really religious, but they will disagree and tell you that you are the one that isn’t religious.
You absolutely can separate them this way. People classify themselves in a better light to impress others. If you ask any person on the planet if they’re good in bed, they will most likely say they are. Just because a person considers themselves religious, doesn’t mean that when their actions are held up to scrutiny by others, they would or should be seen as such. The Phelps church is not religious because they are doing exactly what I said… cherry-picking parts of a book to forward their own agenda, as well as using the facade of being a church to make tons of tax free cash through donations given to them by people who agree with their views. They claim to be a “Christian” sect, but ignore almost everything that Christ taught in exchange for the vengeful laws of the Old Testament. To be religious is to make one’s self better, but to use religion is to try to make everyone else better.
I think the problem is you don’t. And by out I mean out of your neighborhood and social circle.
If you surround yourself with nothing but people that agree with you you’re never going to learn anything or get out of the life as a dipshit rut you’re obviously stuck in.
I wish I had something really really homosexual and gay to say in this thread to make people shit rainbows……. but I’m totally blank. Sorry fellas. I’ll let the straight people fight this battle.
The thing about religion is that people choose to be good for a reward.
People who believe in heaven and all that stuff want to get there so they have good behaviour.
Athiests on the other hand want to be good just for the sake of being good. They don’t need to have a reward for it. They don’t need a afterlife insurance. They just want to be decent people and thats it.
That’s complete garbage. No one is born altruistic. The fact that we seem to be able to act in an altruistic manner doesn’t change that we are designed to survive w/in the group AND as an individual. There’s a developmental stage where we’re able to have empathy, it’s how we learn; if it’s not practiced, it goes away.
Who said anything about being born altruistic? We learn that from our parents, and the world around us.
I do have to agree with your premise that we are designed (by Evolution) to survive in that way. There are Christians out there that lack empathy (WBC for example), so I guess you could say that that’s proof of your statement “if it’s not practiced, it goes away”.
So how do you explain atheists that give of their time, and money for no reward?
Goddamnit, a long comment and I had to sign in AFTER I clicked submit! Fuck!
Ok. *ohmmmmmmmmmmmmm*
No reward? There’s always a reward. Regardless, we need empathy to live and survive w/in the group. That doesn’t mean it’s restricted to the group. We can feel other people’s pain and we try to help, soothe, whatever is needed.
I said something about being born not-altruistic to make a point that we learn altruism not from one’s self. It means we have to figure out both our shared and not-shared moralities. We need to explain our ethics, where they are from, why, how and what.
I remember being something like 10 and reading Genesis. When I got to the bit where there was light before God created the sun and the stars in the sky, I just knew that shit was whack, son.
PROTIP: don’t let a bunch of way-too-translated guidebook to the lifestyle of nomadic sheep herding tribes that lived 3000 years ago be the be-all, end-all of proper behavior in modern civilization.

Leviticus 19:27 (NIV)
“Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. “
My book says, “You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard.” That doesn’t mean don’t cut.
How do you round off your hair? Push it back into your scalp?
Ancient Jewish hair gel, made of sand, lambs blood and foreskins.
So your Levitus was anti-the Beatles as well?

FAG RAGE
The fucking bible. It’s all fiction anyway. Biggest load of dumbfuck imaginary tales I’ve ever seen.
the only real part of the bible to commit to is the 10 commandments, which are a part of common laws anyway i.e. dont murder, dont steal etc
the anti-homosexuality ideals are just common sense that every normal person should follow
What if your parents are atheists, but all of your grandparents are religious?
R U Fuxored?
My bible says drink beer, have fun, play with the woman (or your choice of what you think is fun to play with) and die happy.
I concur.
I concur.
Jesus’ first miracle was to turn water into wine at a party, cuz his momma told him to
Any religious person I’ve met uses their faith to manage themselves and be a better person.
“Any religious person I’ve met uses their faith to manage themselves and be a better person?”
You don’t get out much, do you?
Agreed. Some people use the arts of the bible that says be good and some use the parts that let them punish. Both are religious.
Let’s see. I’m aware that some religious people use religion to better themselves and that some religious people don’t.
You throw a fit whenever somebody disagrees with your narrow view of the world.
Looks like you got me this time, Marge!
winder = wonder
I should proof read.
lol @... downvoting a note about a typo.
I wonder if I offended the fatties, the looney leftist losers, or the faggots?
My fault for having an opinion. I don’t think like they do. Therefore I must be a nay zi.
Its too bad you can’t downvote reality huh retards?
Probably has something to do with your recent grammar nazi douchebaggery.
Gay people dress really nice.
you are evidence against that.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.
What are we talking about?
Leviticus. The real reason there are no orthodox Jewish pro football players.
You’re a complete loser.
Regulation footballs are made from pigskin.
Then I guess the same logic applies to muslim hand egg players too?
Yeah. If you are orthodox, its nerf or nothing.
“I guess I’m the only one who thought this was a Harry Potter reference.”
That was really funny…really butt fucking funny
I wish I had something really really homosexual and gay to say in this thread to make people shit rainbows……. but I’m totally blank. Sorry fellas. I’ll let the straight people fight this battle.
The thing about religion is that people choose to be good for a reward.
People who believe in heaven and all that stuff want to get there so they have good behaviour.
Athiests on the other hand want to be good just for the sake of being good. They don’t need to have a reward for it. They don’t need a afterlife insurance. They just want to be decent people and thats it.
Let me preface this by saying that I’m an agnostic that believes in God, but not the church.
I think there will be more Athiests in heaven than preachers(OR more precisely televangelists).
God the tester,
God the comforter,
God the intercessor…

Shortened version. Sorry.
That’s fine to say in the west but a weird attitude for someone in Taiwan.
The bible is nothing but contradictions… Leviticus 19:27 says don’t cut your hair, but Exodus 20:18 say “Thou shall look fierce”.
A fierce hippy?
Peace out muotherfucker! Now show me your war face.
O_O
I remember being something like 10 and reading Genesis. When I got to the bit where there was light before God created the sun and the stars in the sky, I just knew that shit was whack, son.
PROTIP: don’t let a bunch of way-too-translated guidebook to the lifestyle of nomadic sheep herding tribes that lived 3000 years ago be the be-all, end-all of proper behavior in modern civilization.
“When I got to the bit where there was light before God created the sun and the stars in the sky”
you know that’s at the VERY BEGINNING, right? like 2-3 verses in?
i am not sure why i think that is funny, but i do
Some folks read slow. Slack, Nate, cut him some.
Silly Gay males, Dicks are for chicks.
So good you had to say it trice?
