Well I thought the series was real initially. YouTube superstar.

I watched it from the start also and hoped it was real. The first videos were so goddamn lovely. What I enjoyed particularly was the whole mega creepy “Cassie” spin off. My god that shit was exciting, never in my life did I wish I were in America so much until that point. The Cassie videos they made were so simple yet so disturbing and then people started figuring out where the places in the videos were and went there to pick up stuff that the people who made the videos left there. Back then they thought this delusional guy called Frank made the videos and he put them there because he thought he was possessed or whatever by Cassie’s ghost. All right nobody believed it to be true but the fact that people who saw it on Youtube could go to the places and stuff was awesome. People told me it was similar back when the Blair Witch Project came out except this thing was much cleverer and also easier to execute because of the Internet.
I don’t care for the series any more, I don’t even know if they still film anything but Jessica rules, I adored her character Bree immensely, hopefully we’ll get to see her in bigger films. And damnit I wish I had a P.Monkey.
I thought this was just a girl that faked out a few people into thinking that she was in a cult, but your’e saying that it was a whole group of people? I need to wikipedia this
The cult was part of the story yes but it was actually a series with a professional film crew that put these videos up on Youtube. Every character has their own channel but they also made a website where you can watch them all in the order they’ve been made. At one point the videos became very bad because they just tried to get more viewers and they had basically just a bunch of very gorgeous women make videos while pretending the story was still relevant when it wasn’t.
And THEN there are a bazillion spin offs, some are fan made, others appear so professional that people think it was made by the same film crew. You can see them only on Youtube on really bizarre channels, it’s great work really.
Here’s Cassie who was mentioned one single time in the original series, in the one episode where Bree and Daniel went swimming she asked about a girl named Cassie. She’s supposedly dead and or a part of Bree that was split at her birth from her soul or some shit, in any case it’s creepy and the videos all contain clues that have been all discovered and analysed in the comments already: www.youtube.com/user/cassieiswatching
Then there’s the creepy OpAphid although her videos are much more brilliant than Cassie’s and they contain clues as well, I think they had some footage of one of the official characters so it’s likely that the film crew did this: www.youtube.com/user/OpAphid
The first dozen videos on the original LG15 channel and the ones I just linked are the best and the ones people enjoyed the most.
In my opinion the Cult thing ruined it. Just like with TV shows, once they go on a horrible random tangent it’s ruined. At the start of the show it all was just so believable and entertaining with some great editing.
Dude what. Without the cult there would have been no story just “vlogs.” You can find millions of those on Youtube, it would have been nothing special. What ruined it is that they tried to make more and more money, one of the things they did is to blow the cult thing out of proportion which was indeed a bad move but everyone loved that stuff at first because they put secret hints in the videos from the beginning and the viewers figured it out. Sometimes depending on what the viewers figured out, they would decide based on that how the story would continue. It was there from the start, you just didn’t notice it because it was so subtle.
Also, most people loved Bree because she was this sheltered, home schooled girl who would sit at home to study science and make videos about it. All of this was only because of the cult. I mean Aleister Crowley, mind altering drugs, ceremonies, the order – it was the motherfucking bomb. Most importantly though, without the cult there would have been no spin offs, no interactive filmmaking and nothing original. Think about it.
But her blog was entertaining, heart felt and the right kind of goofy. I never watched any of the spin offs so I don’t know about them. The cult thing just did nothing for me.
Yeah but they were goofy only because she was this eccentric cult following weirdo girl who fantasises about squeezing her father’s head like a lemon. I liked the cult only at first when it was subtle and made me read up on Aleister Crowley. When they exaggerated with the cult they also started to just want to make more money. There was a whole group on Youtube that discovered the spin offs and solved puzzles, usually in the comments. If you had caught that you would have liked it for sure.

Perhaps, perhaps. I also watched it because she is just so dang cute.
Yes obviously that was the main reason. She also made nerdy girls with thick eyebrows feel good about themselves. Mhm oh yes.
I never watched any of them, but I am all about still having actual eyebrows, even and possibly especially thick ones.
Teehee. I have noticed that already.
For reals?
