I’m in Europe and am subjected to this rave shit in every corner. You’re not missing out on anything. It’s like no, I’m not impressed by your music where you could loop a fraction and it’s the same as the whole track and no I’m not impressed by those dumb neon colours on your forehead leave me alone.
Although some Americans keep telling me that this kind of music is only bad in Europe so maybe I am wrong after all. I do enjoy the Drum and Bass crowd however.
Agreed, some/a lot of it can be extremely terrible. I tend to split my time between progressive trance and D & B/Jungle. Was big into Hard House back in ’00 to about ’02. Christ, I’m getting old…
At any rate, “popular” music over here is so cookie-cutter any more, it’s un-listenable nine times out of ten. I guess it’s basically the same everywhere though. Probably doesn’t help that I live in a cultural wasteland either.
Sounds good, yeah I don’t know much about the music back then but you’re right it is the same here. Though the majority of music I listen to is American, you just produce so much. It’s mostly underground stuff, and because of fantastic mediums like the Internet I get to listen to nerdy 8bit albums that some American student made in his basement at the computer, it’s great. What I’m trying to say is I can’t complain that good stuff isn’t available, there’s plenty, only at big events it seems the bigger the crowd the dumber the music.

I think I outgrew my “party” phase or whatever the hell it was.
I’m only 23 and I am not attracted to parties anymore, I know this picture depicts a wild and probably fucked up sweet time but I don’t find myself saying “Man, wish I could go to one of those!”. But no, I have a thing for not liking being in big unnecessary crowds, having to walk a mile to get to a bar, wait 2 hours to get a drink but might as well buy two since by the time you get out of the whole mess one bottle’s gonna be empty and the other one half-warm.
It’s somewhat depressing because I KNOW I shouldn’t feel like this, I’m behaving like an old fart.
I always like when my friends make fun of techno/trance/etc. by saying OONTS OONTS OONTS, because the only techno they’ve ever heard is some amateur remix of a popular 80’s song on the radio. If you hear it on the radio, it’s not techno. I like how they all change their minds once they hear better stuff.
My eyesight is weird, I’d be having some serious seizures. Also, if I want some repetitive generic music I can just fire up Reason, or Logic, pick a few loops and I can build a track in like 5 minutes.
Anyway. I mentioned how it’s always funny to see my friends make fun of techno/trance/whatever by saying “OONTS OONTS OONTS,” because the only techno they’ve ever heard is some amateur remix of a popular 80s song on the radio. Guess what, we techno fans hate that shit just as much as you do. When I clue them in to better trance, most of them end up liking it.
Looks like a hell of a party. Christ, sometimes I really hate the music scene in the States.

Hence, small, intimate gatherings are the venue of choice. Agreed.

Anyway.. www.ultramusicfestival.com <–awesome. I'm going. TWO MONTHS!

I’ve never been to a rave, after my time, I guess.
My comment didn’t show up earlier…weird.

Bad techno that everyone hates: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG3PJOlv54k#t=45s
Good techno: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L_l-uoF19o
www.ultramusicfestival.com <–got my tickets, TWO MONTHS!
Yeah there’s some great stuff, especially in Trance and House. The problem is that to find the great stuff, first you must wade through a lot of crap.
I don’t object to good techno. I object to having to share space with large quantities of people. *shudders*
