The Star Wars movie had a serious lack of orbital bombardment. Those Rebel bases could have been leveled with a few turbolaser blasts, no vulnerable walkers or Death Stars required.
In the first movie the problem was they didn’t know where the rebel base was. In the second, when they attacked the Hoth base, I believe there was some ulterior motives such as capturing Luke and possibly some of the other rebel leaders. At least, that’s how I explain it to myself. The third one is not applicable, as it seems they were mostly ship borne by that point (and smartly so).
Echo Base on Hoth had a shield to protect it from bombardment.
By the time the Empire could have lifted their ATATs and troops or more them to a safe distance (from an imperial perspective at least) the rebels would have escaped in greater numbers than they did.
If you want orbital bombardment, the Dark Horse comics have that in spades.
That said…
Take off and nuke it from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.
pew pew pew
nah, it is nothing compared to the power of the Force.
Insignificant!
Judge me by my size, do you?

I forgot about the shield. I hope I don’t get banished from the world of geekdom.
Take another run at Dagobah and will be fine.
