A jury has found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996. Jurors awarded her $5 million in a judgment that could haunt the former president as he campaigns to regain the White House. The verdict was announced in a federal courtroom in New York City on the first day of deliberations. Jurors rejected Carroll’s claim that she was raped, but found Trump liable for sexual abuse and for defaming Carroll after she made her allegations public. Trump chose not to attend the civil trial and was absent when the verdict was read.
There should be a 10-star rating for specials like these.
In the part of the country where the incident took place, rape is explicitly defined as unwanted intercourse. Unlike most other places, which defines it as any unwanted penetration. The jury had no choice but to reject it.
Trump didn’t attend because his lawyers know he has no self control and he’d rage at the verdict, ending him time in the slammer for contempt of court. The walls of Mar-a-Lardo were bleeding ketchup again, I’m sure.
She’s never going to see a penny of that money.
He’s already appealed and will continue to do so. Unless she can find a lawyer willing to work cheap or free he’ll drag that out until she doesn’t have any money left.
